Yes, I do have Herman's ancestors. He was born in Clinton county, Indiana, to George Cortez Salmon and Catherine/Katharine A. Cheney. Here's an obit of Herman's sister:

Bessie C. Salmon

Bessie C. Salmon, 709 N. Jackson St., died at 9:20 p.m. yesterday at Clinton County Hospital. She was 90.

A native of Kilmore, Miss Salmon was born Jan 1, 1883, the daughter of George Cortez and Katharine Cheney Salmon. She spent her childhood in Moran and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1901.

Miss Salmon graduated from DePauw University in 1912 and completed missionary training in Cincinnati before going to Korea from 1915-1919. She worked as a teacher and missionary and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three nieces, Doris Salmon Peacock of Alberta, Canada,; Lois Salmon of Chilliwack, Canada, and Katharine Beil Egner of Battle Creek, Mich.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Osgood officiating. Burial will be in Kilmore Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. tomorrow.

George's parents were Daniel Salmon and Margaret Clark. Daniel's parents were George Salmon and Mary Castator. Mary's parents were John Castator and Catharine LNU, from whom I descend.

Margaret Clark's parents were Matthew Clark and Elizabeth Armstrong McFeaters. Elizabeth's parents were James McFeeters and Mary Armstrong, from whom I also descend. Mary's parents were John Armstrong and Eleanor Wallace.

My husband John Peacock is the oldest grandson of Herman Salmon. I am the family historian and know all of Herman's descendants and have old family photos. Do you know of Herman's ancestors? Herman's wife's maiden name was Frey.

The Master Surname Index (not online) (mostly burials in Alberta cemeteries) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists these names;

Elizabeth Frey SALMON, 1882 - 20 Aug 1944, died at Empress AB, buried in the Alsask SK cemetery.

Alsask is just across the border in Saskatchewan, Sibald is about 20 miles west of the border in Alberta and Empress about 50 miles south of Alsask just at the border in Alberta.

Thanks for making contact. Your grandfather Adelard Katrensky was my father's younger brother, making your father my first cousin and you my first cousin once removed. I remember meeting uncle Adelard in Saskatoon in the 19 50's when I was in my early teens. At that time he had children, but that was probably before the birth of your father. Your uncles Ken and Ted Katrensky live in Vancouver, as I do. I've met Ken and one of your aunts from Calgary.

My sister and I have collected a lot of Katrensky family history and photos. If you want more information, please contact me by e-mail.

Thanks for the message. I remember the name John Bunyak from my childhood on the family homestead, which was about four miles from the Bunyak homestead, where our common ancestor (my great-grandmother) Elizabeth (Churi/Csuri) Levai lived for a while according to the 1901 Canada Census. That makes us second cousins, twice removed, I think.

No, I have never been to a Montana reunion, but I did meet many of that family of second cousins at the Kaposvar Centennial in 1986, where our cousin Frank Dloughy and his wife MIldred had a party for all the clan. They all reminded me of my grandmother Susanna (Levai) Katrensky).

I shall be in Europe on vacation from 14 May to 14 June. It is possible I may be in Saskatchewan in July, close to Montana. Please let me know the details of the reunion, as there is a remote chance I might be able to drop in. Us retired folk have lots of travel time!

My great-grandfather was Paul Powder, married to Christine Bews (Buze). they had 12 children, Felix, Francis, Fred, Samuel, Gabriel, twins- Robert and Katherine (Cardinal), Johnny, Henry, Zachary, MaryJane, I can't remember one other name at the moment. These names are not placed in the order they were born. My grandfather was Robert Powder married to Vitaline (Cardinal). My mother's name is Georgina Mercredi (Powder) and lives in Fort Smith N.T. I have a letter from Elizabeth Churi's I think it is Elizabeth and I can copy that for you to it is not very easy to read. I app what you can let me know. I am the great-grandson of Elizabeth Churi and John Levai, who lived in Hejce, Hungary. When John died in the latter part of the 19th century, Elizabeth took her four children, Elizabeth, Susan, Rose and John to New York and vacinity where they found work as domestics. Elizabeth married John Bunyak and had eight children. Susan married Steve Katrensky in 1889. Rose married Mady and had seven children. John had three.
In 1892 or 93 Elizabeth, the Bunyaks, Katrensky's and other family members emigrated to the Kaposvar Hungarian settlement near present day Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, Canada, where they took up homesteads.
My father, John Katrensky, was one of 16 children of Susan and Stephen. My father married Irene Diemert in 1928. I am one of three children born on the original Katrensky homestead.
The "Levai" spelling is correct, except that in Hungary the e has an acute accent, which I cannot reproduce in this e-mail. My spelling of Hejce is also correct.
The original spelling of Katrensky included a z, Katrenszky. When I was a child, my parents and a few other Katrensky's shortened and "Anglicized" the name to Atrens.
If you are interested, I have additional information on the Bunyak's and the Katrensky's and some photos.
In May of 2002, I did my "roots" visit to the Hungarian villages where my grandparents were born.
The village of Hejce is in a poor region of North-Eastern Hungary, with few signs of modernization. I found there a resident from San Francisco who was able to do some translating for me. There are many Levai grave stones in the Reformed Church (Calvinist) cemetery in Hejce, but there are apparently no living Levai in the area. I was told there was a family with a Churi connection living there, but they were away on holidays. I do have pictures of Hejce that I can e-mail if you wish.

The Master Index (not online) of the Alberta Genealogical Society list some 5 BUNYAK names among them are;

I am related by marriage to Lizotte and House from Alberta. I have found that Powder and Lapoudre are the same family name. Chalifoux's used Jalifoux and Gladu. Blandion's used Dion, Blayon. Campion's used Sapen. Laboucane's used Lafournaise. Bouchier's used Boucher. The lists goes on, but this may be of some help. My husband's family is from Albert and are of native decent.

My husband's great grandmother was Madeline Auger she was married to Alexander House (also spelled Howse). Madeleine's parent's were William Auger and Catherine Cardinal. Catherine Cardinal's parents were Antoine Mustatip Cardinal and Cecile Boucher.

I have found 15,000 relatives so far. Most of the family memeber came over from France, Scotland or England. Once they settled in Canada, alot of them moved to Alberta. There is a place in Edmonton and one in Calgary that I know of that has alot of information on the families that settled in Alberta. My husband and I plan to go to Edmonton and see what we came find there. I do have a few papers that we got in the Archieves in Northern Alberta about the Powders, House, Auger , Lambert and Lizotte families. We also went to a church where we got some baptism cert. I could e-mail you some of the stuff about the Powder family that I got. Terry
