Mostrato and Douca Families

Hi there, i have a relative Pennelope Mostrato born 1877 in Turkey. A Marika Douca born 1897 Istanbul and died in 1970 Durban South Africa. A Michalis Douca born 1895 Istanbul and Polyxeni Douca. They moved to Alexandria Eygpt in the early 1900s. Any help would be really great. Not sure if the spelling of Douca is correct, could be Douka or Doucas. Suzanne Minter

Lebanon Turkey or Syria

I am travelling to Lebanon soon and hope to put my feet on the soil of my ancestors... Georgeous Hanna Mellick born 1863 in Bterram or Constantinople (according to his death certificate) and Nasta Jeha born 1865 Mt Lebanon.

I've been able to go a bit further back re the Mellick line but all I have for Nasta is that she was the daughter of Nicolas Jeha and Rebecca Anthony. Nicolas was listed as a policeman.

I am at a loss which part of Mt Lebanon and the Jeha and Anthony family line.... Or even if it is accurate.

Any help would be very much appreciated

Greek Birth Records in Smyrna

Were birth records for greeks living in Smyrna destroyed in the fire that leveled the Greek section of the city? I'm trying to find information on Demitrios Fotiadis or Fotiades born September 23, 1889 Smyrna, Ismir, Turkey mother's first name Eleni maiden name unknown. Demitrios emigrated to US before 1917 rest of his family remained through the unfortunate events of 1920 war. Eleni and another son Ernie (american name) came to US after the destruction of Smyrna. Demitrios immigrated to Greece in 1960's from the US and died in athens, Attiki, Greece April, 10, 1970. Any help appreciated.

In the surnames index there, if you search for the surname FARHI (which I assume is the name you are researching), you will see "Farhi families of Izmir (Smyrna)." I think you should search Turkish records, if possible.

My grandmother and grandfather is whom you were speaking with.
My nan left first and then my pop only a few months ago so in saying this i would love to continue on their quest of the family name.
I am also trying to find as much as i can about the family name for my dad who is still a Karadin, as showing him the research would give him a great surprise that my nan was in search for. My pop was hungarian so im curious to how the post you wrote could have translated into Karadin and unto how if how the name came from Turkey. Any info would be gladly appreciated.

Hello my name is Helena, and my grandparents were Karadins.
I'm guessing you were speaking to my nan or pop whom have passed away. My nan left us first and only a few months ago my pop.
As my dad has the Karadin name i was wondering if you give me any more info on the decent of the Karadin name.
My pop was hungarian and i would love to continue on my nan's search for the family tree or any info regarding there where about of orginiality.

I wanted to see how you have got on so far?

I'm in a similar fix trying to track down the birth records of my Grandfather who was born in Constantinople, to Jewish parents but I don't know how to look for such records. Its a desperate shame that no compilation of data such as in the UK and USA has been done as yet in Turkey.

My own Grandparent was born there in 1912 but I am clueless as to where to begin. Have you had any further development?

I am looking for info on a Gasmil Evason. His daughter Theodosia married Eli James in the British Consulate in Constantinople in 1896. Theodosia was 20 at the time. Eli James was in the British Navy and Theodosia was a governess at the time of the marriage. According to the marriage certificate, Theodosia's father Gasmil Evason was deceased at the time of the marriage and had been a watchmaker.

all i know is that my great grandmother Maria Aloglou was born in Turkey (Asian Minor) 1900 and married in Egypt. She pat away in 1943.

-she had 2 brothers (Pandelis & Panyaiotis) and 2 sisters (Christina and Elleni)

Smryna, now Izmir was controlled by both Turkey under the Ottoman rule as well as now, however it was also controlled by Greece at various times. There was a strong link to Salonica as well. I have many Sephardic families in my tree from that area. My current count is over 150,000 people. I would like to link your family with the ones I have. Please contact me.

I am interested to know whether anyone is aware of any researchers who are resident in Istanbul, and who offer research services in the Ottoman Archives of Istanbul?

I am trying to locate copies of records in the Nufus Defterleri for certain villages in Cyprus (for the purpose of creating a family tree), and corresponding census records for 1831, 1862, 1777, and 1841 etc/ and or cizye defterleri (capitation registers/poll tax)/ temettuat defterleri (profit tax registers) for those villages.

I would appreciate any assistance into this matter.

The person in question is only 24... Give or take 4 years!

The second is a town/city in Armenia in in which my Armenian ancestory was born circa 1895. Maybe Harrack, Armenia?

My Grandfather immigrated from Alatsata, Turkey in 1912. He was Greek. The spelling was changed some how. It could have been "Santogiannis" or some sort of derivative. I can't find any ship record of him or any family information in Turkey. If there is anyone with any information would like to hear from you.

Hello, I am a student in an ancestry class and I am seeking more information on my great-grandfather NECMI ALAGUR (b. 1900-d.1977) and of his parents whose names are ISMAIL RUSDU and SEMSIYE. Necmi was born in Ankara, Turkey and he was a pilot in the air force during the independence war of Turkey.

He married Ayse Maide ALAGUR (b. 1906- d. 1983). Her parents were Ismail Hakki (b. 1876-d. 1939) and Hadide Mudide (b. 1890- d. 1984) . Her father was also a soldier.

Necmi and Ayse Maide only had two children, my grandmother ZEYNEP ALAGUR and my great aunt AYSE ALAGUR.

Both Necmi Alagur and Ayse Maide Alagur are buried in Ankara, Turkey. Necmi is buried in a special cemetery for those who were important in the independence war.

If you could tell me any information about Necmi Alagur, Ayse Alagur, or their parents it would be much appreciated because I do not know a lot.

Hi Steven! I think we are related. My fathers family immigrated from Istanbul, Turkey. My father Ralph Avnaim passed away 4 1 1994 and was 1st cousin to Neil Sedaka. Dads mom and Neils dad were brother and sister. Dads family lived in Brooklyn NY til he joined the Airforce. We were raised in the Dayton Ohio area. I don't know many of my cousins.
