Hi Willem

I have no proof that the family that I study (WINKELMANN) has links with Smyrna. It is only an assumption.

I have just learnt two weeks ago where they are originating from. Until this moment I only knew they were German. Now I know that W. Philippe André was born in Hamburg, 1764. His father and mother were : Gothel Frederic (born towards 1740), and SCHEMALE Elisabeth.
Philippe André WINKELMANN has left Germany before 1794, then he has lived in Bordeaux, France. He was a trader and a farmer.
I think this family has probably Turkish relatives (or having lived in Turkey). Two of his children, who were born 1794 and 1806, and his grand-son, born 1880, have Turkish first names (Osman or Hévy).
I've learnt from a a kind person that there were a Carl Diedeich W. in Smyrna, who was a merchant and a Consul. That's why I explore this way. I've wrote to Bristish Consulate in Smyrna, but I did not get any answer.

I'll let you know any new information, would you please do the same ?
Jean-Claude
