I don't know about a "colony" but my grandfather, Jameel George David, immigrated from Syria, met my grandmother (Ruby Marion Davis) in Jacksonville, FL and married her on Dec 21, 1919 at the Baptist Parsonage in Jacksonville. He then went with her to her hometown, Charleston, IL where he lived the rest of his life. His brother, "Art David" remained in Jacksonville - I think his wife's name was Nancy.
