I am seeking descendants of Assyrian families who resided at or near Ross, Mountrail Country, North Dakota, USA during the period 1915 - 1925.

I am also researching family members from Syria that were in ND. My husband's grandfather was in Mandan, ND, around 1909. We have been told that he married there about 1909. I have been trying to locate when he, John (Sheriff) Deib, arrived in the States. Not having any luck! Have you ever come across the names Deib or Hasse? John apparently travelled from Syria with an aunt and uncle named Hasse and possibly entered the country using their name. I can find no records of Deib or Hasse in ND. Mandan is in Morton County. Would be interested in knowing places to search in that state.

Hi,
I am acquainted with the Juma family from Ross, and also am very familiar with that area. I can probably answer many of your questions re: families of Assyrian descent in Ross area, and if I can't, I can contact my cousins up there who are Juma's (my cousin married Charles Juma Jr. son of Sam Juma, who is also related to the Omar's, and several other families. I also have access to the Mountrail County history book which details many of the families from that area and would be happy to make copies for you of the pages that pretain to your search. May I ask if you are related to anyone there?

Hi Vicki,
Saw your message when doing a search. You have Charles Juma,Jr. as a son of Sam Juma. He is the son of Charles Juma,Sr. Sam Juma was my grandfather. Everyone called Charles,Sr.-Charlie. Charlie and Sam had the same last name, and claimed to be cousins when they moved here. Actually, they all claimed to be related, but most really were not blood relatives. Later, many intermarried-making them related.

I would be interested in speaking with you re: your Abdalla(h) family members. Mine, which usually went by Abdella, lived in MN. However, many family members lived in ND at some point or, perhaps, the entire time.
