Surnames: Marun Khoury
I am searching for more information on my great grandfather, Emilio Marun. I know that he migrated to the Americas from Lebanon in the 1880's. He had two brothers, Miguel and Jorge Marun. The story goes that the three brothers came over together, one going to South America, another to Jaltipan, Veracruz, Mexico and my grandfather going to Dominican Republic. My great grandfather kept his last name and so did his brothers. I located decendents of the brothere that went to Mexico and according to a distant cousin, their mother's last name was Khoury. I'm trying to piece together the family but am trying to figure out who where their parents. Any help is greatly appreciated. I also discovered in speaking to my grandfather (97 years old) that there was also a sister and that her name was Mariame but must have changed it to possibly Elvira. Thanks!

My understanding is that Khoury is my great-grandfather's mother's last name. They were Maronite Christians. I take it that your family was as well as that is where you last name originates. I do know that my great-grandfather over with 2 brothers. There is also a sister I just recently discovered. The 3 brothers separated when they came over to the Americas. My great-grandfather went to Dominican Republic, once went to South America (I think it's Columbia) and the other went to Mexico...State of Veracruz...Jaltipan region. I got the name from a 2nd cousin I recently met via Facebook that resides in Mexico and he colaborated the same story and he carries the same last name as ours...Marun. He was the one who supplied the last name after speaking with an elderly aunt. I would love to try and dig through Dominican Republic records to find out more but currently it's not possible. I hope that helps.

I was looking through some papers and found the same thing.
My grandfathers last name Khoury came from his mother also. I am told that is unusual. Yes, we are maronite christians.
I understand that there are two sisters. One is Sophia and the other one is (not sure of the spelling)Bearmi ?? That is something I haven't been able to verify yet. I know of a brother I think John in Mexico. Not too much info on him.
Do you think we have something here?

Unfortunately no. I know the names of the Mexican brother. His name was Jorge Marun and his son was Miguel Marun. Miguel just recently passed away. I know for a fact that they lived in Jaltipan. They use to communicate with my grandfather for many years and even tried to convince us to move there. My grandfather is now 98 years old but he has mentioned Khoury but never that that was his grandmother's name more than once and I was surprised when the 2nd cousin produced the name. Also the brother in Columbia is Manuel. Don't give up..the info is out there! :)
