Americanized Syrian Name
I have been searching Ellis Island records in search of my greatgrandfther. I only have a little information. He came over with 2 young sons and his wife in 1907 from Homs, Syria. His americanized name is "Abraham Zahand", but there are no records for that name.
My mom told me that in Syria they pronounced "Zahand" like "Zahoot" (my spelling of how I think it is pronounced.) If anyone has any idea how "Zahand" would be spelled for the Ellis Island records it would be greatly appreciated.
