Hello,
I'm currently searching for information on my gr-grandfather prior to his arrival in NY on 19Dec1899 on the Statendam. His name was Ismael Abraham Asfour, born 1878 in Damascus, Syria. Once arriving in NY, he changed his name to Joseph Bird.
I am having a hard time figuring out how to do research on family members from the Middle East, and was hoping for some guidance. I do not have any other information on Ismael such as his parents names.
