Goldfinger Family born in Palestine

My mother's maternal grandfather, Isidor Eisenberger, married Hani (aka Hannah/Anna/Anne) Goldfinger from Nagytarkany, Hungary (now part of Slovakia, I think). Hani's parents names were Samuel (bat (daughter of) Shmuel on her headstone) and Leni (Leah).

This is the confusing branch of the family for me. In the 1910 US Census, Hani attested that her parents were born in Palestine. I'm not sure about the connection between Hungary and Palestine or how they went from one place to the other.

Hani's parents are buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem (per my grandmother, Hani's daughter) and I am attaching a photo from a well known studio in the Armenian Quarter.

Wondering if anybody out there has these same Goldfingers in their family or any other knowledge of them. Please contact me if you do.

Thank you!

Your story sound much like my grandfather's, Antonio Juan (Anton Hana) Dieck. There are a great many families in Mexico with the surnames of Moras (Morras, Mora) and Ayoub (Ayub). Belen is the Spanish translation of Bethlehem.

My records show a Jusef Kahlil Murra born to Negme Handal and Kahil Salameh Murra in 1884 in Bethlehem who married Giamile Gidi. I'm sure they were related to Juan (John, Hana)--cousins.

I do have to apologize for my previous note. I just realized when you wrote Edward you were actually puting (my) Edward and the rest of the Male names.
I was talking to my sister-in-law in Jordan (Ed's sister)who has in her posession a family tree that includes others that i do not have, some of which are intermarried with dahdahs and live in San Francisco - Nouha is one she married Yousef Dahdah son of George Dahdah who for a short while lived also in San francisco. The names of brothers and sisters you gave of Tawfiq are right, two of which died very young.
I also found out that the whole Dahdah clan started in Russia way back. do you have such info. I will have mine evantually from my in-law sometime in December when she comes to visit, she said there's alot of paperwork involved and cannot send it through email or actual mail.

So we will keep intouch and see what else might come up.

Thanks, margaret

Wow!!!!
Well I am very glad to hear from you!! I have to say that some of your family names are of course very similar to My Dahdah family members - but to think that Edward (my Husband)was thought to be the only one with the english name in the family and to find out that there was an other family member way-back with that name its abit hard to swallow. Is there a particular story with your Edward family member how he managed to get that name???? Please do tell as my husband has his version of the story and I would like to mention it to him. In the meantime I will let him read your email and see what matches.
As for relatives in Montreal, unfortunately we do not know anyone there. We are all situated in one spot her in Toronto. Would you let me know were you're from (here or out of the country)????
Keep intouch and we'll exchange notes in the meantime.
Regards,
Margaret

I am looking for my father. On my birth certificate it states his name as Abed El Ariz Shalash. Not sure if its the correct spelling. I am 37 years old now and have never met him. I would like the chance to see him if possible. I know that he remarried after my mother and had other children. As I am an only child I would like the chance to meet my "siblings" if possible. Any help would be much appreciated.

Still Searching for Murra/Murah

After several years, I've come across a few papers with a bit more information.
Juan's original name was apparenly Oudah Murah. He and other young boys were conscripted to fight the Turks. After some period, they were sent home, then conscripted again. They rebeled and ran. Several stayed on a friendly farm for some time, returned home and then, fearing another conscription, caught a ship. Believing it was easier to enter Mexico or Central America, most went there. Juan Moras and Frank Ayoub came to USA, settled in Toledo, Ohio. Both lived their lives here, raised families, and died here, Juan in 1969 and Frank in 1977.

According to the papers, Juan's brothers Anton and Mikhail are mentioned, as are cousins Jawdah and Mekhayer in Honduras. Other papers I've seen but no longer have show a business in Torreon, Mexico, apparently owned by a brother/cousin. Several letters to Juan came from there.

Juan's Social Security application shows Belen, Palestine, as his birthplace, in 1890, though we were told it was Bethlehem. His father is listed as Jacob Moras, his mother as Hannah Negme. I have a poem written by Juan's mother, but unsigned, detailing her longing for a lost son.

Any further information will be most appreciated.

I am trying to trace a lady known only to me as "J. Macqueen". I believe she might have been an Egyptian doctor, maybe the widow of an British expatriate. In 1932 or so she married my grandfather, British born Robert Edwin Davis. I have a photograph of her and would love to find any descendants or family. She was last heard of, with my grandfather, near Haifa in the late 1930s. This is a real mystery and any leads or suggestions would be so welcome.

To all posting on this posting:

I have been working on incorporating information from the Family Trees from afrpsanjose.org into the family tree I have posted as Gencom on ancestry.com Try searching the family trees using various spellings of the name and hopefully whatever I have posted will show up.

If I can be of any further help, please email me. I am incorporating their info as afrpsanjose.org as well as info from Ancestry.com, published obits (if I can find them), and other info into a searchable database which for now I am posting on Ancestry.com. If there is something you find at their site, which I have not included yet, I just haven't gotten to it just yet.

Jack Totah
jack.totah@sbcglobal.net

Please check my Husbands family site Dahdah Family Tree see if any of the old Dahdahs are familiar.
I was told that the name came from Lebanon originally, the families separated to different part of the Middleast and across the world mostly to the Americas (Latin America). Sometimes you can recognize by photos a facial features as it happened with my family tree. We know that my Husband Edward dahdah has still family in the States mainly known in California, and also in Australia.
His family lived mainly in Jaffa and Haifa when they were young then on the 1948 upraising they were on holiday in lebanon with relatives and this is were they had to move on as they could not enter palestine. Edward was born in Alayroun lebanon, after him they moved to Jordan Amman, Jabal Husien area and stayed there till 1968 when they (all the family)slowly moved to Canada. We all now live in Ontario, Canada.
Yes the Dahdah Family is big and everywhere. Just like you we can only go so far as grandparents did mention dates and people by their full name, e.g. he was born on the first day it snowed in Alayroun it was before Christmas (Edward). Some of the churches and Mousques were thorn down therefore papers were hard to get,we met a Dahdah that is also Muslim living in Jordan, we simply had to keep asking other relatives, and I still am.
I would like to hear from you if this tree applies to your family too. So check it out!!!!

Regards,
Margaret Dahdah Bowman
