My grandmother moved to Cuba from Beit Jala along with my grandfather and his brother and wife in the early 1900's. Her name was Milady Matar(maiden name) she was married to my Grandfather Camilo Abdala Rabba. The family lived in Santiago de Cuba until 1958 and then moved to Honduras. Where a large Palestinian population exists to this day that emmigrated from Palestine.

good luck maybe we are related what was your grandmothers name?

Thank you,
Jorge

Bonjour Jorge,

My name is Jack Matar, apparently I am your third cousin. Aunt Milady is my fathers aunt, her sisters are Cathrina , Sarah, Wardeh, Nimeh. They had one brother Dawood who is my grandfather. I met your grandfather Mr. Rabba in my fathers house in the early 60's when I was a young boy in Beit Jala and I remember him telling us about you leaving Cuba in 1958.
Where do you live now?

For those of you searching for records from Beit Jala, I can refer you to the LDS Family History Center. Do a google search for the website and look for film number 1367588. The film is in English and records births and deaths in Beit Jala from the period of early 1920s until the 1950s. Good luck!

I can refer you to www.palestine-family.net which has information about Beit Jala emigrants who went to Chile and other countries in South America. Might prove to be a good resource for this thread.
