There's another good explanation for the Indian heritage. The Kammacher family was a well known wealthy noble family of Europe with the surname spelled different ways depending on the country. Spellings include Von Kannacher Kammacher, Kannacker etc: The coat of arms shows the Prussian crown and scepter. They may have married into foreign elite families they came in contact with and had many servants. Members of such families who immigrated to the USA were normally disowned or disinherited which was a rare occurrence. The swiss spoke German so many members may have came from Germany too.
