Names were not changed at
Ellis Island! Although many times we hear this story the ship manifests were done in
Europe and along the voyage. I have looked at several hundred manifests and find them to be the true sp. in 99% of the cases. And a few that are just plain errors, 1%. The orginal ship manifests are online so you can check SETINA and most likely it will be correct. Perhaps the reason the H was added was to keep the original sound of SH. The S may have had a mark / over it in the old country which have it a SH sound
