PABIN, Mary Kurelac, 81, of Lafferty, Ohio died Monday, December 12, 2011, at her home.

She was born in McMechen, West Virginia, (Marshall County) February 24, 1930, a daughter of the late Peter and Mary Pukach Kurelac.

A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lafferty, Mary was retired from Triple A in the USA in Bellaire, Ohio.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were two sisters, Madelyn and Julie.

Surviving are her husband, Chester Pabin; two daughters, Mary K. Pabin, at home and Anna (David) Pritts, Lafferty, OH; five sons, Rev. Chester Pabin, Caldwell, Ohio, Peter (Kim) Pabin of Linden, Michigan; Michael (Linda) Pabin of Conway, Ark.; Thomas (Tracy) Pabin of Lafferty; Philip (Tina) Pabin of Morristown, Ohio; one brother, Peter Kurelac, Moundsville, West Virginia; three sisters, Rose Heath, McMechen, Ann Cwynar, McMechen, and Katie Wolen of West Mifflin, Pa; 19 grandchildren including Nathan Pabin, who resided with his grandparents; 19 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Warren Funeral Home, Flushing, Ohio Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lafferty with Rev. Leonard Cencula the celebrant.

Burial will follow in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Lafferty. Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lafferty is a census-designated place in northeastern Union Township, Belmont County, Ohio, United States, along Wheeling Creek. Although it is unincorporated, it has a post office, with the ZIP code of 43951

I am just now researching our family history.

My dad Merco Spanovich died in 1989. I also have a typed letter signed by Uncle Mike, talking about our family history beginning with my Grandfather: Sam and Grandmother: Sara. Dalene (Aunt Mary's daughter) gave me the letter a few years ago. The letter begins with First to be born was Helen, in Yugoslavia, who died during the Flu epidemic in Europe, at the age of 12.

I was told Uncle Mike & Aunt Betty had four children and moved to Arizona.

Assistance with research for my Grandfather's family

Genealogy of the family of duke Petar Vukotić of Montenegro is well documented and researched. I suggest you contact one of the local family researchers to see if there is any documented direct link between your ancestors and this family. Surnames were often the same within a clan, and the link may not go further than common earlier origin.

According to publicly available info, one researcher, Nikola M. Vukotić, has a book that is soon to be published about the duke and his life.

The trouble is, it's in Serbian. I've tried google translations, but it will not work as the document was scanned and then copied to me.

My grandmother, Andje Raicevich, from Montenegro came to the US about this time. She had a cousin, who they called Andy, but his name was Andre Raicevich, who came about the same time. Andy married a woman named Ruth and they lived in Colorado Springs. They had two children, now in their 70's. Do you believe they may be related to you?

Hello Cousin !....As a young lad my grandmother read me letters from her couson in Buennos Aires in the 40's. She was from Lepetane, Boka Kotorska...She was a Vucinovic from there
and came to USA 1904 from Italy where she and her husband and son stayed one year leaving before that from Egypt where my father was born in 1903. My father was also Gracia Josef only son arr New York 1904...His father George Anthony Radovic, married to Elena Radovic nee Vucinovic from Lepetane, Mont. in
1902-3. They came to Seattle following Josef Vucinovic brother
of Elena.....The Radovic family and Vucinovic family lived next door to each other in Lepetane in 1903. These houses still stand there in Boka Kotorska today. Our cousins too..

- what documents are basis for the Montenegro area of origin you mentioned

THEN:

The middle name for everyone you listed is the first name of the father.

Important thing to keep in mind is that the difference between what is available in English and what is available in local languages - your best bet for successful research is to locate a descendant of the same family or clan who can communicate in English and share their knowledge with you, both from the oral family history tradition and the written sources.
