I would like help in searching the orgin of the Mondrage surname. My late husband's grandfather Stephen Mondrage came to the US sometime in the early 1900's. We believe he came thru Ellis Island, but cannot find any information there. He may have been born in Serbia, Yugoslavia in the late 1800's. He worked on the railroad from somewhere in the northeast US to where he settled in Southwest Virginia. He married Celia Turner from Steinman, Virginia. The Mondrage name probably has a different spelling now than when Mr. Mondrage came to the US. Could it be Mondrich or some other spelling unknown to us???? We have been told that Mondrage is possibly French. We would love the hear from anyone that has any information.
