Do you have the EXACT place names of origin?

If not, make an inquiry at Bad Arolsen Archives?

Contact the Bad Arolsen Archives. Since Family Members had DP (Displaced People) status, these archives will provide you w/details of family members' WW2 and post WW2 experiences in Germany and all other personal details as well. This is ideal for anyone who does not know exact place of birth for relatives. Inquiry by immediate family is available for free. All you need to provide is full name and any other spelling variants and exact birth date, or as exact as you have it. Do not provide more info than that. Your inquiry can be done by e-mail. I understand the archives have upgraded their svces and response can be received via e-mail as well. Response can take as little as 3 days or as much as three months.

Upon accessing site click HUMANITARIAN REQUESTS. Follow instructions.
www.its-arolsen.org/
___________________________________________________________

????
Saw your inquiry. Dubno > Vohlyn > Reconstituted Poland is very likely not accurate place of origin. In order to avoid repatriation back to Soviet Union, Dubno & Polish citizenship might have been fabricated and became the ticket for Australian freedom. This was fairly common.

If you were born in Germany, include yourself in the inquiry in Bad Arolsen inquiry.

Important link for OSTARBEITER - DP Descendants
www.dpcamps.org/
=======================
=======================

MIGRATION SELECTION RECORDS available thru Australian Archives, contain the most personal detail.
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/fact-sheets/fs227.aspx

===============================
===============================
===============================

???????
About two dozen+ Palyanytzia and 11/12,000 Havrysh can be found in Ukraine today. The surnames seem to cross in a small town called Khotin (Хотінь Ukr. spelling) > Sumskij raion/district > Sumska oblast region > Ukraine, latest zip code 42320. It was founded in 1689, but probably dates back to Kyivan Rus times. It is located 20 kms north of Sumy. Population today 2,000. The Oleshnya River flows nearby. Please understand that this means nothing until it's documented.
http://town-map.com.ua/hotin_sumskoy_sumskaya.htm

LDS has filmed both civil and metrykal data for the town.

From family death certificates, the place of birth was Przysietnica, Galicia. The family spoke Polish. My great-grandparents' names were Jacob Czajka and Elysabet (Elizabeth) Garwol (though spelled Garrol on one of their children's death certificates). His parents were Albert Czajka and Elyzabet Saduowsky (don't know if her last name is spelled correctly, wasn't too legible on Jacob's death certificate.

On the passenger manifest for an Elzbieta Czajka in August 1913 aboard the Grosser Kurfurst from Bremen, she @20yrs and a servant is listed as going to join her brother Jakob Czajka in Lorain, Ohio. Birthplace is listed as Przysietnica, Galicia. With nearest relative Marya Czajka in Przysietnica.

Another passenger manifest for another Elzbieta Czajka aboard the Vaderland our of Antwerp in April 1908 list her as 30 yrs old and joining her husband Jakob Czajka in Lorain, Ohio. With her are two children, Jan (2yrs) and Jakob (8 months). I believe this is my great-grandmother with my great-uncle John (b. 11/1905) (Jan)in tow, though "Jakob" is a little bit of a mystery because I don't show another Jacob in the family. I thought maybe Jakob is my grandfather James and the person writing the log got it wrong, but who knows.

I am so thankful to have found this thread! My husband's father, Myron, is Frank's son. I have been searching for any information I could find on Myron's family. All we know is his father's name - Frank, born 1880 and died 1965. Besides what I can gather from these posts, what else can you tell me about Frank - siblings, parents, children (besides Myron), etc? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Vasili(Wesley) would be Frank's brother and Jacob/Sophie would be his parents. Vasili married Olga Schwede and they had four children - Carl, Wesley, Edith and Sophie. I would greatly appreciate anything else you can tell me. And my husband would be thrilled!

Hi

My great uncle was called Shlomo Aronov - the son of Shmuel Aronov. I know most of his siblings names and met Shlomo several times. From what I understood until recently he and his wife, Mira had no children. However I've recently been told that there was a son although he was never mentioned to me. So it's possible there is a link. I can be contacted at arthur @ weissfamily.co.uk

Thanks

He would like to find her surviving family. I provided him w/a list of same surname people living in Romny, but he does not speak Russian nor Ukrainian. Might you consider helping him? Would it also be possible for anyone in your family to make some telephone calls to the people I listed for him? I am sure he would probably compensate anyone in Ukraine, who would help. This would be a good thing to do.

My adopted daughter from Kazazhstan was told by her grandmother Olga that her family name was originally Alexandrovna. The grandmother and her mother were deported east by the Soviets and ended up in Tashkent where the g grandmother died leaving her daughter alone. The grandmother married a Muslim in the region and wound up in KZ. She was also told that her ggrandfather was from Poland and was probably killed by the Nazis. Other names she mentioned were Helena and Anna. Her own mother also named another daughter Lidia and she was named Yulia. Grandmother Olga died last year or so. Does any of this resonate? SFBarson@comcast.net

My grandfather died before I was born but I have information regardng the ship he arrived on at Ellis Island. Actually the info is at my mother's home, but I can get it.

I live in Seattle, Washington. My late husband, Armin Schlieps, was also a descendent of Johann Georg and Elisabeth Weber Koenig, via their daughters Wilhelmine and Henriette. I am trying to trace as much as I can of the family history for his grandchildren, before it is lost forever. My husband's Koenig ancestry is as follows:

Leopold's sister, Wilhelmine Koenig, married Heinrich Schultze. Their son Georg Schultze married his first cousin Henriette Papmehl. They had 9 children - Wilhelmine, Henriette, Georg, Ernst, Julie, Flora, Lina and (twins) Alma & Alfred. Alma married George Schlieps; they are Armin's parents. Armin's other great-grandmother, Henriette Koenig, another of Leopold's sisters, married Eduard Papmehl. The Henriette Papmehl whom George Schultz married was their daughter. (Leopold was married to Caroline Papmehl, Eduard Papmehl's sister.)

Several years after World War II the Schlieps' family (George, Alma, Mira and Armin) immigrated to New York. George and Armin, both violinmakers, first worked for Wurlitzer, then had a shop in Carnegie Hall. Armin eventually moved to Seattle with his first wife, Rochelle, and their children, David, Mark and Jennifer. Mark Schlieps and his wife Helaina have two children, Derek and Stephanie. (I am Armin's second wife. Armin died on December 14, 2005.)

I would love to learn any additonal information about this interesting and extensive family. You also mentioned several books about the Koenigs. Do you know where I can purchase them?

Nancy
Hello again, I did some checking with the cemetery there in Twining, Michigan and found that the Frank Snihur I was checking for has to be the one they have listed seeing that, he is buried in a lot owned by Anthony Chmura who was the husband of Anna Snihur and she would of been Franks daughter. I can't seem to locate Frank's wife yet.
You could check with the cemetery as she may not be indexed if she did not have a headstone.
Frank Snihur is the only Snihur listed in the indexes of over 1,000,000 names. Unless his wife was burried using a different name, she may be buried somewhere else than in local cemeteries. now that I am sure this is the Frank this may take me a little farther.
I now have reason to believe that Frank had a brother named Wesley Snihurs and they were Ukrainian/Russian. I'm not sure what the name would be for Frank. could our families be a connection? could you give me alittle information on your grandpa?
thanks Kathy
Kathy,

This is the limited information that I have on my grandfather, I know he had a brother who immigrated to the US but that's all I know. Vasili and Olga had four children: Carl, Wesley (my father), Edith and Sophie. My aunt Sophie (only remaining living child) cannot seem to remember many details. The family was very very poor especially during the 1930s when my father and his siblings were growing up.

Maybe the place of birth will help you. Again family folklore has this town as flooded during the building of a dam and the family was moved. Also my grandfather never heard from his family in the old country after WW1.

Do you have an immigation year or port? The US has better immigration records but due to privacy laws not much is available that is less than 100 years old.

Good luck on your search, I will contact my cousin and aunt to see if they remember the name Frank. Are you Frank's granddaughter?

Nancy

Name Vasili/Wesley/Vesely Snihur (nicknamed Bel or Bill)
Born 1895
Place Ukraine - Selorebinre, Kamenoykoro, Uesakjodolskoi, Yub, Russia (spoke Russian)
Parents Jacob, Sophie
Married Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Spouse Olga Schwede
Died July 1963
Place Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Occupation worked at Stelco
Immigration 1912, arrived with mother's godfather Alexander, friend Nic (b Dec 20 1895) and Bill Tach from Polasko Russia
Notes Naturalized on May 27 1930 - had to be 5 years in Canada to apply for Naturalization (aka Canadian citizenship), listed as from Russia and labourer in Hamilton Ontario (name listed was Wesley, wife listed as Alga). Ref 70042A
Greek Catholic. Was in WW1 Princess Pats regiment (Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry).

I noticed this old message just now. I am a descendent of Leopold Koenig, the Zucker Koenig. My grandfather's brother, Heinrich Weber, was the head of the refinery in Guty, and their mother was the sister of Leopold Koenig. There are books written about Leopold and has father, Johann Georg Koenig, which I have. Let me know if you still are interested. I would like to know more about the family myself. If you are interested, there are a lot of descendents to learn about.

Dennis Weber, Las Vegas, Nevada
