Linetsky / Lenetsky of Kremenchuk

I am related to Boris Lenetsky (1884-1966), b. Kremenchuk and migrated to Montreal about 1907, then to Philadelphia in the mid 1920s. There seems to be a fair number of Linetsky / Lenetsky / Lenetzky in the same boat (figuratively speaking here), and I'm trying to connect Boris to this group. Can anyone help?

Note that there was a Boris Lenetsky who died in Montreal in 1910... Different guy, although potentially related.

Shalom Brenda,
I have just saw your message. My great-grandfather Moishe? Nissin - Nathan (Nissin)- son of Israel (Isrl) and Genyah? Berenstein (Bernstein or Berenshteyn). I think That Israel was son of Benyamin. I think too, that Israel married again to one woman that I don`'t remember now her name but I can see it. What I know from jewishgen (website) is that they came before Chisinau, and before from Bendery and from Gubernia and BieloRussia?. I know that Nissin had many brothers and sisters, I can see it for yu too if yu want. Nissin married to Tzyrl Kats and they had 7 sons: Froike (?), Itzik, Moishe, Berl (Boris), Simrrah (Simao - my great-grandfather), Zanvl (Sioma) and Leib. Nissin married again with Mirke that already had a daughter called Shprintze(a) that emigrated to Argentina. If yu have questions please tell me, all the best.

today selo Orchyk in Kharkivska (Kharkiv) Oblast/Region

District and regional borders have changed since 1920.

FYI (for your information) Poltavskaya Gubernia was created in 1802.
________________________________________________________

At first I zeroed in on Velikij Yerchyky in Kiev Region.
I did then find an Orchyk River in more Eastern Ukraine.
This lead me to Zachepilivka Raion/District in Kharkivska Oblast. It literally borders the Poltava and Kharkiv Regions. This immediate area was settled in the first half of 18th century by Zaporizhia Cossacks.

Within Zachepilivskij raion there is a Malij Orchyk next door to an Orchyk (also referred to as Russkij Orchyk and Velikij Orchyk).

I suspect this is father's ancestral village today???

selo/village Orchyk (coordinates 49.12-35.04) > Zachepilivskij raion > Kharkivska Oblast > Ukraine,
latest zip code for village 64431.

http://bastion.kharkivoda.gov.ua/show.php?page=zachepilivska

Consider writing a letter to Village Administrator (Holovi Silskoji Rady) inquiring re any surviving family still in the village. There are about 18,000 people living in the district, within the appx 30 villages and 2 larger towns, Lebyazhe and Zachepilivka.

Additionally, contact Oblast Archives and inquire where metrykal records for village might be located.

It does not look like LDS (Mormon Church) has filmed anything from Zachepilivka District, but this is a complicated area because of all the border changes between districts and regions and I could be wrong. You might consider looking at catalogue link below. I hope the URL holds. I found possibilities, but I am not sure.

State Archives of Kharkiv Oblast
[Derzhavnyi arkhiv Kharkivskoi oblasti]
Moskovskyi Prospekt, 7
61003, Kharkiv
Tel/Fax: (0572) 12-66-43, 12-65-15
E-mail: gaho@ukr.net
Working hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00-17:00
_____________________________________________

Taken from LDS CATALOGUE
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermain...++
__________________________________________________

Can you read Ukrainian or Russian?
I was born in Chicago, IL in 1946. My father was also born in Chicago.
http://www.encyclopediaofukraine.com/pages/D/I/Displacedpers...
This page says a bit about displaced persons after WWII.
As to being merried to a person with German name, yes, it was normal, since Germans lived in Ukraine and Russia for centuries. However, it became a great disadvantage politically, when Gemany went with war on USSR. As I mentioned before, people of German origin, Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Bulgars, Tatars, Gypsy, Chechens, and also Ukrainians, and Pols of USSR became a subject to political prosecution due simply to their nationality. About 20 millions did not survive the Gulag ( Soviet concentration camps).
Your grandmother, probably, eventually ended up abroad, possibly, USA (if this is where you are from), since she probably knew where the adoptive family was from. It would be logical that when time came to immigrate, she'd choose USA, just to stay somehow closer to the child she'd given up. Such is mother's heart. Of course, she could also stay in Germany.
Thus, Ukrainian sources can help find out her maiden name, place of her birth, info on her first husband and her older kids. May be she had siblings.
poltava-shibko

My grandmother was from poltava, ukraine. Her surname was shibko. I don't know anything about her husband (NOT my dad's father) except that he perished in the war. I have learned that Klassen is a german name. Obviously she married him way before WWII. Her husband must have died between 1941 and 1944. (Was it odd for a ukrainian to marry a german during that era?) My paper work says she and her children (ages 10 and 14 then) went to germany and became "forced laborers".I don't have a camp name either. I do not believe she was in a concentration camp. I don't have a camp name either. She probably would have never survived long enough to have had my father. I also know that she was born in 1906.
As you can tell, I don't have too much information about her. It's very frustrating. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
If you'd like you can email me directly to murphy.653@osu.edu
Name Klassen is not Ukrainian, it is, perhaps, of German origin, or Lithuanian. Since she moved to Germany in 1944, during WWII, could it be that she was taken to concentration camp by Nazi, or she went there voluntarily?
Was she living in a Displaced Persons Camp? From those camps ( among them Ukrainian one was the most organised), people went after war abroad, to USA and Kanada, some stayed in Germany, some even naively returned back to USSR ( to be executed by Stalin regime as traitors, unfortunately).
What you are saying is that your Ukrainian grandfather was not Klassen, and your grandmother Katherina Klassen ( Shibko) knew him somewhere beetween 1944-1946, which, probably happenned in a Displaced Persons Camp.
Her first husband, Klassen, was he killed in action ? During WWII people og German origin were taken from the front, arrested and sent to Gulag by Stalin.
