This is wonderful !!!!
Reason you cannot find it is because there is Velyki (Greater) Sorochyntsi and Mali (Smaller) Sorochyntsi = Великі Сорочинці & Малі Сорочинці . He was likely from Velyki, since he used only Sorochyntsi.
https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=50.032222,33.958333&spn=...Road into selo/village Velyki Sorochyntsi (Larger Shirtwearers). The Church of the Transfiguration is 18th century Baroque. This was where Hryhoriy (Gregor) was likely christened.
http://photos.wikimapia.org/p/00/03/70/67/60_full.jpgVelyki Sorochyntsi was the birthplace of the great writer and dramatist, Mykola Hohol = Nikolaj Gogol. This is still a Cossack village of appx 3,600 residents.
http://photo.i.ua/user/3394799/271201/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikolai_GogolLet me check a few things and I will get back to you a little later. Although the village suffered great loses during the Holodymir (Stalin's Artificial Famine) in 1932-33 and then in 1946-1947, I think your chances of finding Gregor's surviving family is still a possibility. If you go back to that partial list I provided, you will see that there are still people w/Maslivetz surname living in the village. I did try calling the mayor's office, but they were already closed. Will try again tomorrow, first thing AM.
