I am trying to determine when my grandfather arrived in Canada. I've searched numerous passenger lists and I haven't been able to find Gregorius Dubas. He went by Harry later in life and I have at least one document where he uses the name Hryo. I have found a passenger list that includes a Hoycko Dubas. All of the other information (born in Austria, Ruthenian, Catholic, age) is correct. It also indicates that he would be joining his brother and that he was planning to settle in Transcona. I know, through family records and comments etc., that at least one brother settled in Transcona, Manitoba. My Mom believes her father began in Manitoba and then made his way to Ontario.
My question is.. could Hoycko translate to Gregorius or Harry?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Alanna
