Hi, Bob.
It has been quite the long time before a reply, but I forgot about this post and just recently took back up the genealogy. It has been discouraging.
I still do not have DOB but I know now that my great grandfather John Kelch,( formerly Johannes Josiphovitch Kelsch) mother's name was Rose Mittweier (it was on his death certificate) and I think his father was Joseph Kelsch, b1843 in Rosental.
Many years ago, I went to the library and looked through Karl Stumpp's book, but didn't have as much information. Also, I think there are misspellings in the declarations, etc that my grandparents filled out because their English wasn't very good. On John's declaration (b 15Jan 1877 in Rosental), he listed his 'former' name as Johannes Josiphovitch Kelsch' , now John Kelch. His wife, Mary, listed her name once as "Marie Geniconda Feist" and also "Couihunda" feist. Family history says her name was actually "Cunigunda" or something like that.
I do not know where they enter the US/Cananda, but I assume Halifax because they lived for a while in Battleford, Canada before entering the US in 1908 (Eastport Idaho). The declaration said that their last foreign address was Battleford Canada. They married and had a child in 1905 in Rosental, Russia, but the next time I could find any info, it was 1908 and they were entering the US in Idaho via railway.
Thank you for your previous help; I regret that I did not see this information sooner.
