This brings up another point that I’ve wondered about from time to time for which I still don’t have a definitive, consistent answer. When doing genealogy what is a best method of documenting name of cities, counties, provinces, states, countries, etc.? Should I use the names and geographic divisions as they existed at the time of the genealogical event, or do I use the names and geographic divisions as they exist today? Up to this point I’ve mostly used the names of the entities as they existed at the time of the genealogical event. But, I know I have not been entirely consistent. Any thoughts?
