As per Ellis Island, Petro and Marya were Wasyl's parents. Wasyl arrived @cousin Fedio's
(who arrived 9/4/1911) in Rochester. Wasyl's younger sister Magda, arrived in 1913. At that time Wasyl was living @95 Josef Street, Rochester.
Rochester is one of the oldest Ruthenian/Ukrainian communities in America. The first Ukrainian immigrant, Evstachiv Makohin, arrived from the Rohatyn district > Ivano-Frankivska Region> Galicia in 1901. Within a few years Rochester had some 20 Ukrainian immigrants from the Rohatyn area, mostly Ukrainian Greek Catholics.
Wasyl, Fedio and Magda were HUTSULS (micro-ethnic Ruthenian group) from WIERZCHNIA. From late 18th century to 1918, Wierzchnia (Polish name) was a very small wies/village > Kalusz was both the administrative and the judicial/tax district. The filial Roman Catholic Church was in Kalusz and the Greek Catholic Church was in Zbora. This was the Ivano-Frankivska Region > Galicia Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE. Another name for this specific region is HUTSULSCHYNA, Land of the Hutsul. 1919-1939 this region came under Reconstituted Poland's domain. Poland had not been a geopolitical entity for 125 yrs. During the Interwar Yrs, Ivano-Frankivsk was called Stanislawow. Post WW2 this region became part of Soviet turf and Stanislawow was renamed back to Ivano-Frankivsk in 1967. In 1991 Ukraine became independent.
