I am looking for the parents or siblings of Peter Kotar b.1882-d.1951 born in either Slovenia or Yugoslavia died in Louisiana married to Ursula Ula b.1895-d.1965 born in either Slovenia or Yugoslavia died in Louisiana. I know that Peter moved to the states and settled in Oklahoma after he married a lady prior to Ursula and I think her name was Paulina or Doulina and they had a son named Josef/Joseph,I am not sure when she died but when she died Peter went back to Yugoslavia and that is where he met Ursula and they married and settled in Louisiana.

I find it very unlikely that the surname Trinajstic (any spelling variation) has anything to do with Slovenia. It does mean "for the thirteenth time" in Slovene, but nothing similar exists here in a surname form.

All of the census records I've referenced are available here at Ancestry. You should use the spelling 'Papish' for the Pueblo location, as that tended to be standard spelling there. One hour to the north in Denver, it was 'Popish'. In Cleveland and Joliet, Ill. it was 'Papesh'. I think these spellings were standardized by publishers of early city directories, who did their best to spell it like it sounded.

If you are able to identify the place in Austria/Yugoslavia/Slovenia where Jerry was from, I'd be interested to know that. I suspect he was from the same area of Suha Krajina SE of Ljubljana that my Papez ancestors came from. There was an extreme amount of immigration from that area during the years from 1880 to WWI.

-Tony

I have called and e-mailed all of my uncles to search for more info. Would I have any you need?

How does Popish relate to Papesh and so fourth? Or are they not? Are these surnames or what seemed to be the best translation? I did easily find that Papez means Pope or the blessed one and that there are remaining families in Slovinia. However, as you stated it seems that my relative immigrated from Yugoslavia.
Is it possible to e-mail a scan of these documents to me?

Thanks again,
Paul

It would seem to me that Jerry Jr. is your grandfather - he was born about 1907, and Jerry Sr. had to be the "Georgini" you refer to (your ggf). Sr. was shown as born in Yugoslavia about 1885, so he was the immigrant. There is a Slovenian given name "Jernej", which was not that common - perhaps this became "Jerry" after arrival in the US.
I have notes of Jerry Sr's family in the following censuses -
1910: 427 Palm St., Pueblo, Colo.
1920: 8000 Marble Av., Cleveland, Ohio
(Both of these census records show that Jerry immigrated to the US in 1902. I have not yet found a passenger list that shows him.)
So the family obviously relocated from Colorado to Ohio between those dates.
-Tony
I think there must be a link between our families. My grandfather, Josef Luzovec, came from Austria (Slovenia) to St. Louis Co., Minn., in about 1910. His name was changed to Luzovich shortly after he arrived. Josef met and married my grandmother, Maria Belcjan (also from Slovenia), in Ely, Minn., and my father and his two siblings were born there between 1914 and 1926. The last name on my grandparents' wedding certificate and their kids' birth certificates is Luzovich.

I happened to find your uncle Edward's obituary in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. I see the family lived at 4444 E 154th in Cleveland from the 1940 Census, which shows Jerry (Sr.) and family, with Jerry Jr. apparently in a 2nd house/unit at the back of the property. This shows Jerry Jr's birthplace as Colorado.

I remember a few years ago speaking with someone in Cleveland (poss. John?). If memory serves, the story he related was that there was a house fire in Pueblo, Colo. in the past that took some of the family members, and the others subsequently moved to Cleveland. I'll have to dig around to see if I have further notes.

-Tony

Chatted with him a bit, discovered we were both from Minnesota.
I have been downsizing recently.
Frank Stergar was my Father. He passed away 10/31/1999. I have not seen or heard from Vonnie since the funeral. She may have returned to Vietnam. I was adopted in Germany in 1955 when he was stationed there.

Thanks! The problem was it was under a post my mom made on my behalf back in Sept. 2012 and you replied to her. You gave her old and new Godina phone numbers in the book. Another senior moment for me. Have a good day! Dawn
