Katz and Zager in Kansas after 1912

Classification: Query
Surnames: Katz, Zager/Zagar
I have a question about pronunciation of names. My gr-grandfather left the Austrian Army (AWOL?) before WW1. When he arrive in the US his name was entered as Katz. He was attempting to have the name corrected at the court house in Kansas City but rumor at the time was the US was sending people back to their home countries. He was Slovenian and was said to have been born in Trava. My question is what Slovenian name would sound like Katz. We are trying to trace him back to Slovenia but without his real last name it has been impossible.

My gr-grandmother was Juliana Zager and according to Ellis Island record her residence was a town named Godork (Austria). I can not find a town named Godork in modern day Austria or Slovenia. Is anyone aware of this place.

Thanks for any help.
