Looking for Anzlovars

I am married to an Anzlovar in the US, but his family came from Slovenia. Johann Anzlovar arrived in 1904, I believe, and Josefa and 6 children (Josefa, Amalia, Ernest, Johann, Rudolf, and Leopold) arrived a year later in 1905.

If anyone has any ties to this family, PLEASE let me know. Thank you! :)

Hi, Patty.

Those names are not in my list of KNOWN related Anzlovars, but that does not mean that they aren't related. Does your uncle know anything about where his family immigrated to? Apparently, my husband's great grandfather came over from Slovenia (I believe Schalkendorfe?) with two brothers. They settled in the Cleveland area of OH. His great grandfather then moved to NY when his wife and 6 children came over a year later through Ellis Island. I think the two brothers stayed in OH. Not sure of their names though :( Can you ask your uncle if he has any information?

Thanks! :)

Hi Amy,

I know my uncles relatives also come from the Cleveland, OH area. I will have to find out some details. My uncles wife (Mary Petrovick) is my mothers sister. Original surname was Petrovcic and it was changed upon arrival to Ellis Island in the early 1920's.

Actually, I think I mistyped my name in signing up here. It's Anslover. My family came from Slovenia in the early 20th century, and originally settled in Newcomerstown Ohio. Then they moved to Massillon Ohio. Somewhere along the line, they Americanized the last name to Anslover. There is also another spelling: Anzlavar. All three spellings are in evidence on tombstones at St. Joseph Catholic cemetery, Massillon Ohio. My immigrant grandparents were John Anslover and Louisa. They had 6 children: John, Rudolph, Angeline, Joseph, Frank, & Pauline. Angeline, Joseph and Pauline are still living. They are my aunts and uncles. I suggest you call the rectory at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Massillon Ohio to see if they would go through the records for you. Dennis

My husband's grandmother was an Anzlovar ( Anslovar) from Massilon Ohio. She married an Ignaz Butcher ( Buchar, I think). They lived in Newcomer's Town and that is where my husband's Mother was born. Her name was Mary Louise Butcher Neff. My husband is Robert Dennis Neff. I feel quite sure that you and my husband are definitely related. Please reply if you can. It would be so nice to hook up with you and find out more about the gealogy of the family! Susan Neff, rdneff@roadrunner.com

In my family tree I have 6 occurrences of surname Anžlovar, which is relatively common surname around Šentvid pri Stični, Stična and Češnjice area (abt 20mi SE from Ljubljana, capitol of Slovenia). According to Slovenian statistical office there is currently 177 persons with that surname in Slovenia.

List of Anžlovars in my tree is far from complete since they have only married into the family, but still might be of interest for you in advanced phases of your research. Names of my older Anžlovars are: Amalija (b 1933), Ana (b 1927, d 1999), Johan (b abt 1820), Jožef (father of Johan) (b abt 1800).

I am born and raised slovenian, and a tourist guide on top of that, and have never heard of a place called Schalkendorfe in my country. Perhaps it was an old austrian name... but it doesn't sound familiar. Anyway, does anyone know of any anzlovars that migrated to australia? I lost track of my mother's cousins and she'd like to find them!

Schalkendorf is located in the Gottschee (Koc'evje) area of Slovenia and is now known as Salka Vas. Sorry I don't know anything about the Anzlovar family.
