My name is Adam Sonnenklar and I am looking for someone to help find information about my relative. Ignati Sonnenklar lived in Rimnicul Vilcea and had a shoe factori there. I would like some help with the research.
Daca cineva cunoste, s-au a cunoscut familia Sonnenklar, va rog sa ma ajutati sa obtin informatii despre el. Ma cheama Adam si nu mai stiu romaneste prea bine. Am plecat in 1962 si acum traiesc in Arizona.

Daphne, I have information about Arthur de Cernea, born Philadelphia 1806, parents French, parents made trip back to France and lost at sea in about 1815, Arthur de Cernea had stayed behind in Pennsylvania, adopted by a local farmer and family, grew up to be a famous physician with a famous architect son, Thomas Lester Cernea. As u can see, my name is
Radu Cernea and I am from Ploiesti -Prahova (Romania). Now I leave in Bucharest, but my grandfather was born in Galati (Danube port). His father was from Oancea village (Galati province). My grandfather told me that is possible that his greatgrandfather came from greece or moldovia.
I really don't know much about this, but I'm looking forward to construct a genealogy tree of my family.
Please tell me if u get some more infomation about this.

Hello Daphne, I looked in withepages Romania and it is only one family in place you mentioned -Calimanesti(county Valcea):
-CERNEA ILEANA, tel.dial 40 for Romania and after(50)751-807.
I looked in Bucarest and there are almost 400 Cernea fam.

My name is Daphne de Cernea, from New Mexico U.S.A.. I am seeking any information available regarding the name Cernea. I can only trace back to my grandfather, Edward de Cernea and my great grandfather, Albert de Cernea. The first de Cernea to come to the U.S. was orphaned and no one in the family knows his name or where he came from. He and his parents traveled in separate ships, to the U.S., and his parents were lost at sea. He was adopted by a Philadelphia Quaker family by the name of Cadwalleder who allowed him to keep his name. My family thinks that the name is French and people in New Mexico think it is Spanish. My inquiries tell me that Cernea is a purely Romanian name and the majority of Cerneas in Romania live in Calimanesti-Calciulata, (Valcea). It is possible that my branch of the Cernea family emigrated to France or Spain, prior to coming to the U.S., which might explain the addition of de to the name. My mother is 75 years old and when she dies the Cernea line in her branch of the family will die with her. We would deeply appreciate any information that would help us trace our roots back to Romania. Thank you!
