Gosav, the meaning of the name

My mother's maiden name is Gosav. At the university, in my second year, a teacher told me this was a very unusual name, but he didn't mention what it meant. I hope that someone can tell me what it means or at least can give me a good hint. From what I know, my grandfather (my mother's father) was from Vaslui County. Any help is very much appreciated.

I have a Romanian (or Moldavian) friend with a family name Sluser.

I have noticed that Romanian people always write this person's name wrong. I can also see that this person stands out from the 'normal' population.

What language is this name Sluser? Is not romanian... It sounds little German, yeah, but I REALLY DOUBT this possibility. Ottoman is not. I can figure out no meaning for this name either. People in this family all have dark hair, etc. This my friend, through looks I would say that might have Greek blood.

Thank you for all answers :)

I feel proud that somebody in this large world is reading the facts about the ancestry of my family's name and for this reason I have to thank you but I have to disappoint you by informing you that the first Dimitriu from my family, in Romania, was the father or grandfather of my grandfather which came in Romania (former Romanian principalities) about 130 (may be 150) years ago as a monk from one of Athos monasteries and his name was Sebastian or Mikhalaki (the informations I have now do not permit me to be very sure in statement).
This monk, after a certain number of years spent in a Romanian monastery, decided to mary and did it. So, in this way, as born our family's name which at first was Demitriu and later became Dimitriu.
But, having in view that you still have moldavian blood I would be happy to change messages with you and probably to meet you because me and my brother we are merchant fleet officers. I can give you more details but not in this mail.
Sincerely yours,
Corneliu C. Dimitriu

Dear sir/madam,i just read your message and found some similarities with the story of my grandmother's generation. Her father was a Moldavian officer travelling in Greece by the end of 19th century. The surname Dimitriu is very common in greece but we are the unique family in my birthplace with such origin. That story i heard it lately because my grandother died in 1938 and my father never spoke about our moldavian-romanian origin.I hope that we could find something, otherwise we'll have a good story to narrate.Thank you.
