Hi!
I don't know if I come from the same line of Nietsch. But my grandfather grew up in reussen, close to Hermanstadt (sibiu today). He had several Michael Nietsch in his family history, where Michael seemed to be a name passed down to the eldest son. Dobring, I think, is close to reussen. But, of course, like for most Germans in that area called Siebenbürgen, the war got in the way. He was taken away by the Russians and ended up in their work camps. Being lucky enough to survive that experience he later came here to Sweden, where my family now reside. We are the only ones in sweden bearing the name spelled Nietsch. Us and some who married one of us. So my guess is that the name Nietsch, if your friends origin is from sibiu-area is German. One of the Siebenbürgen sachsen. We still have some relatives in the area, which is Romania today.
I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I know I have distant relatives with the same name out there, and that the name is German, rather than Hungarian or other.
Kind regards
Hannes Nietsch
