My grandfather George Green, born Zalman Grinberg in 1892, Iasi Romania. The story goes that he was named for his father who was killed in an accident while working on the King's palace as a stone mason. My grandfather was born shortly after his death and was given the same name. HIs mother Basya or Rebecca (Berkowitz) Grinberg was given some property as compensation for the accident and then emigrated to ny with her youngest son Zalman in 1902. Zalman became George Green and married my Grandmother Esther Grier of Russia. I did find a cemetery record of what I believe is my great grandfather in the Iasi jewish cemetery. (It was also rumored that he may have had red hair, I guess not very common). My Great Grandmother Basya or Rebecca remarried in the US to a man named Pearlman, but I don't have any further information. If any of this sounds familiar please let me know.
