Any info. on the Cseh Families

If anyone has any info. on the Cseh family, I would greatly appreciate that you contact me. Two Cseh families came from Romania or Hungary. They could have a different spelling of the last name. They came over in the very late l800's or very early l900's. One was John Cseh, wife Elizabeth. The other was Joseph(I think)Cseh, wife again named Elizabeth. Please contact me at sherbs72@aol.com" target="_blank">www.deb'sherbs72@aol.com. Thanks. Debbie S.

Our Simon family from Csot,Vesprem Megy,Hungary, includes Farkas, Janos whose mother was Cseh Zsuzsanna who died in 1852. and her father was Istvan. Have you tried the LDS records?

I really just first heard of this family name in Aug. 2003. The ones who stayed in Hungary vs the ones who came to America are unknow.

My last name is Csehy and I am trying to find out why there is a "y" in my name. I know there is a town called Csehy in Hungary, but I have never been there before. My grandfather Michael Csehy came over in the late 1800s. My father was from Ohio, so I don't know if there is any connection there. I heard once that the "y" meant some sort of status or royalty. Do you know anything about this? I am trying to find out about my heritage. My father passed away in 2001 and so did his mother. I have no one to discuss this with to find out names and such. Any info you have would be great.

Hi Jess,

My father Gábor Cseh was born in Hungary 1939 in Miskolc. Immigrated to NZ in 1956. Married Ilonka Kiss 1961(?). 3 kids Gábor, Peter (deceased) & Lisa. Immigrated to Australia 1968. Living in Brisbane Queensland.

I believe he has a brother in Ohio some where.

Not sure if this helps.

Cheeers, Gabi.

Hy!

The Cseh family from Romania - are originated from two nearby villages - named: Alsócsernáton and Szentkatolna - Covasna county - Transsylvania. They were seclers - ( hungarian tribe) - who had to protect the easter borderlines of the country. The family was welthy by the concept of that times and got nobility for their acts in war. They were countid by general Basta in 1600 - and there is mentiond 10 Cseh families in the two villages. I have their genealogy till 1780 directly from my grandmother Cseh Rozália, but I have a big white pot till 1600. As I know the Cseh-s went in two wawes to west - first to western Transsylvania ( Szolnok-Doboka county and the 2nd to Hajdu-Bihar county and from there to the actual teritory of Hungary.

Hello Denes,

I'm actually quite interested in your own surname (Barabas).
I'm working on a project having to do with the Bukovina Szekely, and Barabas is one name that occurs among them.

As you probably know, the Bukovina Szekely came from Transylvania originally.

I'd be interested in finding out how far back you've traced your own family tree.

By the way, I'll be in Covasna next month, doing some research in the National Archive.
