I'm looking for any information on the surnames BIKO & ENGLER from Dolatz, Romania. My great grandparents were Noklos ENGLER (Oct. 1844-7 Nov. 1920) & Katlina BIKO (1 Jan. 1848-16 Feb. 1923). Both were from Dolatz. They came to the USA in 1906 and died in Bangor, Van Buren CO, MI. Any information on the parents and siblings of either or both of them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Barb Paulus-Marshall

Karen,
In the Hungarian grammar last name goes first. The Hung. phone directory lists 145 Vati.
I checked the Romanian Whitepages, Sibiu District for Vati, one Maria Vatiu listed in Sibiu, but I'm not sure if that's the same name. Nothing in Laslea= (Szaszszentlaszlo from Janos and Maria E.I. arrival record).
Also no Vati in Mures District (Laslau Mic at one time also was known as Szaszszentlaszlo)
Joseph
Hello! This is Karen, the person sho is researching the last name of Vati in Romania. All of my relatives have the last name VATI, there is no one with the first name of Vati, unless at one time they switched. I am not sure. The names I have so far are Janos (John) Vati and Maria Vati. Janos was 10 months old he is the son of Maria, my grandmother. Her place of residence wasSzaszotlaszlo,Hungary, she came to the USA on August 28th 1912, from the port of Antwerp, Belgium. She was 18 years old, apparently her husband had already came to the USA and then sent for her and their 10 month old son.

Keep in touch.
Hi

This means that your family was either bulgarian, because Calafat is exactly on the border- my family was born there.
However, the way it was spelled is wrong. I think they were trying to find a way to make it easier to be pronunced in English.
I believe it is Sergiev or Serghiev.
People were migrating back and forth on the DAnube river at that time because of the war in Balcans between Bugaria and Romania in 1916-1918.
So, probably your family is Bulgarian at origin.
Good Luck!
