Hello I am seeking any information on the Pitsch family from Cenei or Steierdorf-Anina. This is the information I have now:

Michael F.

The place is mentioned on both my great grandparents passenger ship records. It is the place my great grandmother was born. She was born in 1876, so the country would have been Hungary. In Familysearch card catalog for the FHL it references Ebendorf parish for those Catholics living in Karavan, which sometimes is wrote with a C. On side note, on my great grandfather's passenger records, in 1910, he lists the surname as Rozsa for himself and his reference to his wife, whom stayed behind for two years before joining him in the US

Her father John Teuchert left Anina for USA in 1903 and his wife Theresa, daughter Rosa and son Frank followed soon after. I visited Anina-Steierdorf in 2005 but did not find any living Teuchert's there. I do have considerable information on the Teuchert and Spevak families (my mother was Bertha Spevak) so please contact me.
Frank Embon fcembon@rcn.com
Allentown, PA

Thanks for that info. His immigration arrival records lists his origination, as well as Martin Bender and Elisabeth Bender (1 or both were his parents), as Anina. His Naturalization form says he was born Steierdorf, Hungary. Apparently the same place. It's quite possible he moved into the area after 1876. Are there any other records besides the family book you referred to that you can suggest? Are there any Benders in the cemetery's you are familiar with in the area? Since Bender is my surname I'm really interested in finding the roots. Josef, Martin and Elisabeth were all listed as being born in Hungary or Austria in various documents.

Thanks for the help!

Hello gsrdude;

Steierdorf is a part of the town named Anina. It was formed in the late 1700s. Originally it was a part of Austria-Hungary but after WWI became part of Hungary and then later Rumania. If you look at the write-up in Wikipedia, you can see that it is in the extreme left side of the country and the boundary was moved around several times.

I can not find any references to any Bender's in the Steierdorf-Anina Family Book of 1773-1865.

FRank Embon

According to his immigration records in the U.S. my great grandfather Josef Bender was born in 1884 in Steierdorf (he listed that as being in Hungary, was it formerly part of Hungary?). His father as listed as Martin Bender (b. approx. 1852) according to Josef's death certificate. I'd really like to get my hands on Josef Bender b. 21 April, 1884 birth certificate if it exists. Any ideas who can help me get that image?

Came to the US in 1906 and 1907 respectively. Married in Steierdorf in 1890's.

What would you suggest is the best way to get information if it exsists? I am interested in any info or websites that show the town of Steierdorf now and as it was in the past.
William might be a great uncle of mine. My grandfather is Augustus Brosch born 1880 in Anina, died 1948 in Ohio. He was one of several children, including William and John. Augustus Married Marie Krall April 1909 in Anina. In 1910 they emigrated to Cleveland OH, where William and John already lived. If Joseph Brosch and Anna Mracek are my great-grands, I did not have their names, although I know my great-grands emigrated to Anina from somewhere in Germany, probably Saxony. Augustus in 1900 schooled as a mechanic for 3 yrs in Leipzig in Saxony. In the 1860's it seems miners from Saxony came to open mines in Anina. That is how it became a German speaking town. This is everything; I might have a photo of my William.

Hello Radu,

As far as I know, the only Vadeanu family in Binis is the one that I belong to. Therefore, since your father was born there, we must be related.

The story of the Vadeanu's in Binis, as I know it, starts with a priest, Popa Vadeanu (Ioan Vadeanu I think was his name). He got posted there in the 30's or 40's. His nephew, also Ioan Vadeanu (my grandfather), came to visit him, met Elena Iova (my grandmother) a local from Binis, married her, and stayed there. After this, a further nephew and niece of Popa Vadeanu did the same - Dinu Vadeanu and Lucretia Vadeanu.

There is a further Vadeanu branch in the area, that we are in contact with. An uncle of my grandfather (which could have been a brother of Popa Vadeanu) married a Serbian woman in a nearby town (a Serbian town in Romania), so this Vadeanu branch in Banat is mainly ethnic Serbian.

I am the son of Ioan Vadeanu's (the nephew, not Popa Vadeanu) daughter, Emilia. We are in Melbourne, Australia. My mother also has a brother, Mircea Vadeanu, who lives somewhere in Africa, Liberia I think. Two of his children, my cousins, live here in Australia, and one of his daughters is in Binis, Romania. She is the last Vadeanu, besides my ageing grandfather there.

Radu, are you a descendant of Popa Vadeanu? I thought he only had two daughters, and, as far as I know, they both emigrated to the USA after WW2.

Looking for my great grandfather Robert Steiner

Hello, I hope that I can find some help here. I’m looking for my Great-grandfather Robert Steiner. He was born in 1894 in Anina (Steierdorf-Anina) and died in 1953 in Merkstein, Germany. He worked in the coalmines.
The problem is that the Banat area where he was born, belonged to Hungary at the time of his birth but later on became part of Romania (since ca. 1919: Anina, Caraş-Severin, Romania). I believe that the people from these areas are considered Donauschwaben.
He was married to Elisabeth Benke, born in 1895 in Debrecen, Hungary. Sometime before 1933 he moved to Germany. 1933 my Grandmother was born in Stolberg, Germany.
I’m trying to find out when Robert moved to Germany. I’m trying to prove citizenship for my Grandmother and I have to prove that he came to Germany no later than 1925.
Unfortunately I am not really that great with this kind of research and I’m not finding much that’s helpful. I’m really not sure how to continue. The only documents I have available are death-certificates for him and his wife and my grandmother’s birth-certificate.
I would really appreciate any kind of suggestions you may have. Thank you.

Vadeanu is a specific name for Dej region, north west of Romania. Some of our family left their homes to Caras Severin, Binis region, in the 40's during the Hungarian occupation.

Yours,

R. Vadeanu

Olga Orsag was my grandmother, Leslie was her brother. Olga married Francis Leitold and had 5 children. I cannot remember who Leslie married but they did not have any children. Franciska (Frannie) married John Gotchi and had no children. I have been looking for relatives of this line for a few years. I recently got in touch with relatives of Matyas, Malvina, and Franciska from Romania.
