My great-grandfather left few clues about his ancestry and it is a big fat brick wall for me.
This is just a shot in the dark post but I welcome any possible leads.
Name: Nikolous SCHULER
Birth: 31 Oct 1879, Szakalhaza
Emigrated: June 1904 (to Philadelphia)
Sackelhausen (modern Sacalaz, Romania) is close to Timisoara, about 9 km southeast.
He married, in 1905, someone from Sanktandreas (now Sanandrei, Romania, 11 km northeast of Timisoara). I have found nearly complete ancestry information about her, Josefa RAUSCH.
Unknown still are his parent's name and whether he had any siblings.
I have pored through the new Familienbuch (2007) which covers his year of birth and there is no listing for him. There are other SCHULER / SCHULLER / etc. families and he does neatly fit into a few.
He worked as a hat maker in Philadelphia and it was listed as his occupation on the Ellis Island manifest.
** Is there any directory of workers in Timisoara area for 1900-1904?
Of course he was Catholic.
** Is there any way to access records (Baptism, birth) from 1870s - 1880s?
Thank you.
