Anca-Thank you for your response and offer to help me research the Muntean Family in Soars. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you could bring.

My grandfather was John Muntin (Ioan Muntein or Muntean) born 11 Apr 1888 in Soarsu Mare, died 24 Feb 1957 in Michigan. He was married to Anna Siandru (Sandru) born 1890 in Vistea de Jos, Romania, died 14 Feb 1975 in Michigan. They met and married in Ohio, and in addition to my father, Charlie, had 2 more sons, John and George.

My grandfather came to the United States in January of 1906, at the age of 17, settling first in Ohio and later moving to Michigan. According to him, he was orphaned at a young age, first by the death of his father, and a few years later by the death of his mother. There were stories that he had a brother that remained in Romania, but until a few years ago this was not confirmed (through correspondence with his brother's grandson, who was introduced to me internet contacts).

According to my sources, my grandfather's father was Ioan Muntein (Muntean) of Soars, birth date unknown, but death date approximately 1890. He was married to Mary Brudea (I know for certain that her name was Mary or some variant of it, because when my parents named me Mary, he was thrilled because that had been his mother's name). I know nothing further of her except that she died about 1896. In addition to my grandfather, Ioan and Mary had another son, Toma, birth date unknown, but who died in Romania in 1960. (He had one daugher, Maria who died in 1961, but not before marrying Teofil Vaja and having 3 children, Dorel, Maria and Eugenia. I have information for some of their children also.
