Looking for DAVID GOLDSCHLAGER in Botosani Romania

I can only trace back as far as my GGgrandfather DAVID GOLDSCHLAGER born in Botosani Romania circa 1833. He was Jewish. He and his wife Clara (nee Cohn / Kohn) moved to Ismail, Ukraine where he was a church elder and was highly regarded. He made a good fortune selling tobacco.

He had four sons and a daughter Dr. Friedrich, Samuel, Moritz, Julius, and Antonie.

While I'm always looking for Goldschlager information from Botosani and Romania in general, I'm also looking for my
G-grandfather's birth certificate for 1833.
Does anyone have a link to birth certificates online for Romania? I've tried to contact Romania but they wernt too keen on helping me. Not sure why.. I'm very nice.

I would love to hear from anyone who has information or who thinks we may be related.

Kindest regards,
Tracy

Hello Charles,

I write to you from San Jose, California. I am from Montreal, Canada. I learned that my father's original family name is "Paisic", or "Peisic". I can't recall what the precise spelling is. My grandfather, Leon Pascal, arrived to Montreal from Falticeni, Romania. I don't know what year. Leon was married to Maryam (Mary) Bier, not certain of the spelling of either names. I too am researching my family's history and would be grateful if you could provide some info.

Ellen Pascal

Looking forward to hearing an update. Thank you for answering so quickly. I was delayed in answering because of work with a long commute. There was a large community of Romanian Jews in Montreal and Quebec City in Quebec Canada in the early 1900's. I hope we end up with a connection as I have tried to connect with others for a lifetime. If you search Osias Schwartz on Ancestry you should connect with my lines. reahome@wildblue.net
Marian

Hi Marian,
I am waiting to hear back from my cousins in Israel who have better information about the earlier schwartzes. I can really only go back to those born in early 1900. My grandmother was a schwartz from Dorohoi, Romania, but her husband Louis hellman (originally leizer hellman) was born in probuzna in 1899. He emigrated here in 1924. That year Probuzna was Poland, a few years earlier ( when his brother Isadaore emigrated here), it was considered Austria. Look at my Hellman Stempa tree, its not much information, but I do have their parents names on there. -regards-Randi

Her father was Jacob Hellman. They married in Montreal in 1908. Zigmund was the son of Michael Schwartz and Frieda Gross. Sophie Hellman, another daughter of Jacob married Osias/Hosea Schwartz who is another son of Michael and Frieda. My Schwartz and Bercovitz, Craft/Kraft families were from the Dorohoi/Stephanesti/Botosani area in Romania and the Hellman family sure married within my lines.Maybe not a direct hit for a connection but sure right names and area.
Please contact me.
Hi, my grandmother was yetta Schwartz Hellman born in dorohoi Romania around 1905. Her maiden name was Schwartz, her fathers name may have been Hershel Schwartz or something that sounds like that. My grandmother emigrated to ny here around 1920 or so, really not sure of the dates. I don't know her mothers name or maiden name. Yetta first lived with cousins from her mothers side, in Brooklyn. Yetta died in 1997. She was married to Louis Hellman born in Austria in 1899. I hear that her first cousin married a man named rubin posner. She is also a cousin of the furman family, . They all lived in Brooklyn in 1920s. This thread is old but maybe your still watching for replies. Good luck to you. Randi

Hi. My grandmother was Raquel Bercowits. She was married to Simon Katz. They both came from Botosani. When my grandmother Ana Katz was 3 years old, they boarded a ship to Argentina at Trieste, Yugoslavia. The original intention was to board a ship to the U.S. But when they got to Trieste, fellow villagers that they met there convinced them to go to Argentina. They settled in Moises Ville, Province of Santa Fe, Argentina. My great grandfather Simon Katz was born in 1861. If this sounds familiar, write to me.

Norma Yaskoir
NYC

I am looking for info about my great grandfather John Lochan, born 1892 in Botosani, Romania (Austria). I believe he immigrated to the US, Detroit @1913, and I know he died shortly after in 1916, possibly came to US via Canada with his wife Caterine Muntean and son Charles. After his death Catherine married Paul Poroch, who according to family stories, also traveled with them from Romania to N. America. If you have any info about any of these people or even Romanian research references, please contact me!

Not sure if you will read this message since you posted so long ago. I am looking for my grandfather;s relatives. My grandfather's name was Mihalo Zaharvitch Danyluik. So I was wondering if there was a connection to the Zaharia name. Usually vitch part meant they were the offspring of the person bearing that name. He was from Siret (Sireth) Bukovina.. in what is now Romania, or maybe it was Romania back in early 1900's. They spoke Ukrainian.
Hi Naomi! My grandmother was Rebecca Moscovitch/Moskowitz from Botosani, Romania. She had at least two sisters, Renee and Brenda... both Anglicized names. Brenda went by Brina or Brana, which I believe translates to Bertha. The family came to Whitechapel, UK in the early 1900's and was Jewish. Parents were Harris and Hana (nee Grin/mberg) Moscovitch/Moskowitz... have seen it spelled both ways.

The last name would be Marcus or a similiar name. The family might have been involved in making beer/drinks, food, etc. All I have to go on right now is a U.S. Naturalization certificate for Morris Marcus, born 1896 in Rumania.

Any help, links, anything, would be much appreciated. I am trying to locate any information about the Marcus family for my grandmother for her 85th birthday. Thank you in advance for your help!

~Michelle

He was born towards the end of the 19th century. he was married to Sara(?), they had 7 children, my father, Leon, was the oldest. My grandparents emigrated to Israel in 1946 and he died there in 1964. I have an uncle living in the states, he may have some more information. I heard it said my grandfather was one of the children born during a second marriage, after the first wife died and the children from the first marriage emigrated to the states.

Also, there is a book published recently about the Jewish community of Botosani.

Does any of the above sound familiar? Did Zelig have brothers? Did they remain in Roumania?

Lena Hamovitz from Botosani, Romania was my maternal grandmother; she died on my birthday-April 15- back in 1976(?) and lived most of her life in Cincinnati; she met her husband, Ben Richman, on the boat to Ellis Isle, though he was from Russia/Poland.
I went to Botosani last summer to look for graves and gather info. I was aided by a remarkable young man who specialized in such ventures and who did an enormous amount of legwork in my behalf; unfortunatley the cemetary records in Botosani date back only to about 1910; I believe that Lena's parents- my great-grandparents- died before that, though Lena's stepmother made it to 1940 or so; I am not sure if she died bacause of the War or by natural causes.
Lena's nonagenerian first cousin was still alive ( in Pittsburgh- Molly Dugan is her name) as late as May of last year.
Lena's daughter, my mother, moved to Atlanta to marry my dad in 1944, where they lived until Jan 22 2007- my folks died three hours apart that sad day a little over a year ago.

I believe we may be related - probably my grandfather (Isaac Jankovitch) was a brother of Eva. He married Malka in Dorohoi before emigrating to England at the turn of the century to escape the pogroms. When my father had to join the National Service as a cadet for the 1st World War, he had to put up with spelling problems by the army with his surname so changed it by deed poll to JACKSON. He died only three weeks ago at the grand old age of 104 according to the Jewish calendar (he was actually 103 with only two weeks to go!)

My email address is d20h00m@yahoo.co.uk in case this does not get through as I have not yet subscribed to the ancestry site.
