I am trying to find out my grandfathers parents names and their dates of birth and death. I know my grandfather was from Alba Iulia but I dont know if he was born there and I don't know if he had any brothers or sisters. His name is Iosif Volonciu born in 1909. If anyone has information or can tell me how I can get it, I would be grateful.

I am researching my Romanian Ancestry. I am looking for information on Nick Guy Stroia son of George and Estena Lamashun Stroia of Ruske Romania. Nick was born in (Millbough) Austria Hungary on Oct 15, 1890. He immigrated to the United States in 1897. He was in the Infantry during World War 1 and was stationed at Camp Shelby in Mississippi. He married Lula Narciss Allred on Sept 6, 1919. Nick did have a sister in Romania, her name - Netta (not sure of spelling). Any information on Nick before or after immigrating to the us would be so much appreciated. Also eager to meet other Stroias.

By my resources, Limba, a.k.a. Dumbrava, Varte/ now part of Ciugud, Alba County, next to the city of Alba Iulia.
Hungarian name was indeed Lombfalva, Limba/ German names Demetersbach, Pramendorf, Warthe.

I got 27 Dumbrava total in Romania, 3 just in Alba County.
The others besides Dumbrava > Ciugud:

Dumbrava a.k.a. Dumbrău, Dumbrăvu > jurisdiction wise belong to Unirea, Alba Co.; Hung. name Dombró.

Dumbrava a.k.a. Cacoviţa, Cacova, Marga > jurisdiction wise belong to Săscior, Alba Co., Hung. name Sebeskákova, Kákova; German name Krebsdorf.

Mapquest has Ciugud next to Alba Iulia; Unirea N-NE from Alba Iulia past Aiud (Dumbrava a bit more north); and Sasciori south from Alba Iulia past Sebes (Dumbrava is next to it).

Request help in locating descendants of Istok Karpiscak who landed in Ellis Island,NYC on May 26,1910 aboard the S/S Pannonia departing from FIUME ( now RIJEK, Croatia). Ship's manifest shows his permenent address as LYNBA (probably a misspelling of LIMBA) LIMBA is the Romanian name of the town which in Hungarian was LOMBFALVA and in 1965 was renamed DUMBRAVA. My research shows that LIMBA is a small village in ALBA county-ALBA- IULA and reports to a larger village of CIUGAD.
I am also told that DUMBRAVA is a small village that reports to UNIREA. If LIMBA was renamed DUMBRAVA, how can there be 2 reporting communes
But both villages are in ALBA County.
I have written a letter to Primaria Municipiului, 510118
Alba Iulia (in English) on 12 Dec 2005 requesting the name of a genealogical contact person to help me in my search but as today (25 Feb 2006) have not recieved a reply. Can anyone assist.

Looking for any information or links to Joseph Fabritius and his wife Maria Magdelena Schumann (b. abt. 1848 and d. abt. 1926 in Sebes, Romania). Known son is Michael Erich Fabritius b. 31 Aug 1886 Muhlbach (I believe he was a twin). I believe Maria may have been Josef's second wife. And I believe that he had about a dozen children.

Maria's father was Daniel Schumann b. about 1822, son of Daniel.

Thank you for your proposal ! Yes, I'm still searching may ancestor named "Thomas CODONNIER", as written on his mariage certificate.

He's reported to be born in "Marajouiar" in the hungarian province, in 1771. There is a high probability that this writing may be the french interpretation for Marosujvar (Ocna Mures). He's parents are reported to be "Gauthier CORDONNIER" and "Marie HILLÉ", from the same province.
The name CORDONNIER may be the french translation of their hungarian name, but I don't know. For information, cordonnier is the french translation of shoemaker.

So if you want, and if you can search any information about this family, it will be a great hope for me!

Dear Catherine,
The closest "Hungarian" surname I found is: Hariovszky. There are a lot of starting with "HAR...", but for more you must fix in some way the pace of origin, the exact spelling and maybe the religion of the interested person / family.
It looks that they were of Armean origins.

Pardon me the use of (bad) english, but i'm french and don't know a word of romanian (shame on me!).

I'm searching for someone's help to continue my genealogy. Indeed, i have a mariage act, where it is written that my ancester, "Thomas CORDONNIER", is born in 1771 in "Marajouiar" in the hungarian province, and his parents were "Gauthier CORDONNIER" and "Marie HILLÉ".
After some researches, i think it may be "Marosújvár"
(Ocna-Mures) in Romania, and his name may be "VARGA" or "VARGHA" (or CIZMAR ?) the translation of CORDONNIER in french (in english = shoemaker).

So i'd like to know if it's reasonnable to hope to find some archives for this period, and if i can find a discussion group,
specialized in genealogy (exchanges, mutal aid,...) for this area.

Duttenhefner is not a Romanian surname. I think is a german surname. But in Romania exists a Sasch comunity (germans established in Romania).

I know that some of the famely emigratede to Chile and America and Canada. are you relatede too any of them???? I don`t think she is the same person. I`am loocking for a Maria Popa who was born in 1890 and she immigrates in USA in 1908. Maria popa was born in Alba but not LOPADEA VECHE (Old Lopadea). My Maria Popa was established in Elyria , Ohio.

I just took a look at your message. You couldn't find Mesenta because the name of the village is "Mesentea". Try to find a reliable geographical map of Romania and most likely you will see it near Alba Iulia. Tarnava Mica is a river.

13OCT1944 Crash North of Câmpeni

My father's B-24 crashed in the mountains somewhere north of Câmpeni this date after bombing a target in Germany. The citizens of Câmpeni were very hospitable to him and his crew, and helped them all return home safely.

I would like to hear any Translyvanian accounts of the crash, and would especially like to know its exact location. Thanks!

Hi. My Ggrandfather was born in Sard in 1887, under the name of Rudolf Gluckner (or Gloeckner?). As a young man, he changed his name to Rezso Gabor. Any information on families with these names would be much appreciated, as I know nothing else about him or his family. In Braila, it is no Davidson family(with telephone).After my reserches for finding my Gavalla family(in Braila too), I found out, that in 1876, was a law who permitted to strangers the rigt to became a citizen and buyng properties. So, from that time, most of the emigrants coming from Europe, lended in Braila-port of entry of Romania.So, Your relativ cuold coming from somewhere other than Romania.
