Hello everyone. I am Ella. Studing Vaysman family from Moldova (Kishinev) I discovered more then 300 people related to Abram (born in 1780 in Bendery) and published a book about them.

Oh! No, you shouldn't repost to the Slovakia forums, FamilySearch should cross-reference the data under Hungary.

It says on the intro page that the data is incomplete; it's possible that Szepsi's records are held elsewhere, or were destroyed or lost. It's a pretty big town, so it's unlikely to be filed under another town's records, but you could perhaps look through Szeszta -- the Dvorzsák (1877) gazetteer says that's where the nearest Greek Catholic church was located. Granted, said gazetteer also says that only 1.2% of the town's population was Greek Catholic, so it's a pretty long shot.

Where are you looking at the 1869 census? All I've been able to find online are scholarly dissertations based on the data, not the data itself.

Has anyone ever found Szepsi/Moldova nad Bodvou town records in the 1869 Census? I do not see the names for either of these towns in the census. Thank you.

Docke or margulis from Zgurita (zigurtiza/ziguritsa)

I am looking for any member of the Docke or Margulis/margolis family from this village. Chayam Margulis was a carpenter/contractor... Josef Docke worked for him and then married his daughter Mollie.

believe that the Kushner family was a cousin line to them and that line was also from this village.

No relation to the Idesis, although i got a strange feeling of connectedness since we are all here asking about people in Zguritza. My husbands grandfather was only known as Joe docke (now Dock) it was his new American name, hie wife was Mollie Margolis/margulis. Her parents were listed on her death certificate as Chayam Margolis and Sarah. They were carpenter/contractors/builders We know that a cousin from Zguritza surname was Kushner who was also listed as carpenter in his ships manifest. I am interested in knowing anything about the family and meeting new cousins =)

My husbands family was from Zgorita. They were carpenters by trade. Joe Docke married Mollie Margolis (his bosses daughter) Mollies father was Chayam Margolis , mother Sarah. nothing else is known. (Docke name is a variant, family lore says that the immigration officer had a hard time and told him his name was now Joe Docke )

Emma Yarmolinsky has family in Texas. She married a Viscardi and cared for Rachel Yarmolinsky's son as his mother Rachel died early. His last name was or is Kracken.

Not that I am aware of - I have learned recently that Yarmolinskys in that region may have come from the Ukrainian/southern Russian city of Yarmolinsk. That may be a clue.

My husband's Great-Grandparents are listed on a ship's manifest as Meier and Chaje Moishes from Balti,Russia. In the US they were known as Meyer and Ida Moses. They settled in Rochester, NY. Meier's father is listed as Jankel(sp?)Moses residing in Balti, Russia. Chaje/Ida was a Spector. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Romer family of Lipcani

Looking for any relatives/decendents of Max & Annie Romer (Max's parents were named Ruben & Pearl and Annies's father Joshua, but no known surname) who left Lipani in 1884 or 1885 with sons Samuel, Charles and daughters Tuette and Ida, my paternal grandmother. Elder sister Runya Romer Feinman followed in 1890. They lived on Suffolk Street in NYC in 1900 census, but there's a listing of 6 children still alive and we can only account for 5 in this country. Max is buried in Washington Cemetery in NYC and Annie in Har Nebo Cemetery in Philly.

I am looking for information on my great grandmother. Phyllis was born on February 19, 1893 in Bessarabia, Russia. Her father was Yacob (Jack) Korfmann. Her mother was Elizabeth Christina. In 1913, Phyllis and her sister emmigrated to North America. I'm not sure where they arrived but they took a train to Melville, Saskatchewan to live with their brother Mattias. Mattias had a blacksmith shop in Melville.

I have some information you about the Cantemir family.Prince Antiochus Cantemir who was living at the time in Constantinople, was arrested by the Turks and exiled with his family in the small island of Coutali, in revenge for his brother's Dimitri Cantemir( with the help of Peter the Great) war against them.Antiochus was married to a Greek lady named katerina Voda and they had 6 children. He died in Constantinople in 1726. Two of his children had high ranks in the Russian army. During the war of Greek independance in 1821, his great grandson John Cantemir returned secretly in Constantinople and for fear for his life changed his name to Dacoglu. Dac from his hometown Dacia in Romania and oglu in Turkish means son, all together Dacoglu( son of Dacia). With his new name got married and that is our family tree. His children moved later to Greece, some of then now living in England and some of us in America. I'm writing a complete family book , our Greek odyssey ,starting from Tudor Cantemir our ancestor, up until today.

Pallagean (or however it is really spelled) was the woman's married name. Supposedly she married someone the family did not approve of, and ran away. He might have been Moldovian, or might have been from somewhere else....

My GGrandpa is Joseph Medzibawsky. He was born abt 1879-1881.My GGrandma's name was Basie Shair?.Born-11/22/1882 in Russia as well as my GG joseph. They came in on ship F.Missler on 6/30/1910 to Galveston,TX.At that time GG Joseph's name was changed to Mike Mege.They both came with my G Aunts & G. Uncles also born in Fatson,Russia & Charson,Russia.Isadore,Mirle,Golde,Jacob.I can't find marriage cert.yr married etc. I know my G Grandma Basie's fathers name was Abe Share & Mom's maiden name-Hannah.Basie had a brother Sam Sher who lived in Toronto,CAN in 1917 & is related to Basie.That's all I can find on our family.Can someone help me find my ancestors from Grigoriopol? I don't know whether or not you'll see this Scott. But my Great Great Grandfather Harold Loyst was Herbert Loyst brother! Harold had Gertrude, who married and had James Snelgrove, who married and had my mother Sandra. We're technically 3rd cousins.

Jacob Piatagorsky - changed to Jacobs

Not sure this will help or not but here goes: One of my ancestors, Jacob Piatagorsky, moved to America in October 1881 from Kishniev, Russia, with his wife Dvossy. They charged their last name to Jacobs and ultimately settled in Charleston, SC. Jacob and Dvossy had 5 daughters, who begat the Charleston Jewish Clans of Levkoff, Birlant, Patla, Bluestein, and Bercoff.

My name is Sabina Puchin. My great-grandmother's name was Elena Caraman. She was born in 1904 in Mihai Viteazu, Calarasi, Romania and died in 1983. I discovered that her father was Ion Caraman (about 1870-1905, sheep breeder, and his father was Vlad Caraman. Here I've lost their trace.

Wow this is cool, I've been looking for leads for a while. Your grandmother's sister was Esther Vugman Jaikles (I think), who was my great grandmother and emigrated to Chile. Let me know if you know anything else about their family in Moldova; I've been interested in finding out more about the family line for a while.

I have Spector's in my family tree (from Popovitz in the Ukraine) married to Friedman's from Kopaigorod, and a Leah Skolnick married to Isaac J. Friedman with two sons, Morris and Sol, from the same general area in the Ukraine. Morris settled in San Francisco.

Ingrid posted a search for relatives of Jaickles from Telenesti (Telenesht) Moldova.

There is a branch in my family named Yukilis (similar name?) from Telenesti.

Someone from the Zaklis family (of Telenesti) felt there was not likely to be a connection, but I'd love to hear more from Ingrid.
