naumjd,
Welcome to the land of " how is that spelled " and " what does that mean"? I am no expert but I don't believe there is a Turnava in Macedonia. There is the town of Tyrnovo located near Bitola near the base of Mt. Pelister. There's also Tetovo located in the northern part of Macedonia and Turnovo in the Bosilovo district in the southeast.
If in fact your relatives village was spelled Turnava, you might want to start looking into Bulgaria. There is a town Turnava in the Yambol District in southeastern Bulgaria. There's also Tarnava in the northwest in the Vratsa district as well as Veliko Tarnovo near Sofia.
The biggest problem is finding out how the town's name is spelled/pronounced. It helps allot if you speak/read the language. Otherwise you run into the problem of people trying to spell the name phonetically from their mother tongue's alphabet.
FYI......my grandfather came from Megarovo which is just across a little stream from Tyrnovo. They're basically one in the same. My family name is Terpena(s). I think the "s" was added to it when they came to America in order to sound more Greek. Hope this helps.
