In history, present day Macedonia and Greece were part of the Ottoman Empire(Turkey). In looking at historical records(passenger ship manifests, U.S. census,etc.) a person (from Monastir(Bitola)for example) may report that he was from either: Turkey, Serbia, Greece, or Monastir, etc. which underwent political changes in late 1800s and early 1900's. So the maps have changed a lot.
