Looking for information about any surviving relatives. My grandfather, Ervin Heinrich (born 1910) said he was born in Pola, Italy same as his mother Ana Fabian. I found that Pola didn't become part of Italy until 1920 and that in 1910 was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Now, Pola (Pula) in the region of Istria, is part of Croatia. My grandfather had a certificate of baptism and passport saying he was Italian but the Italian Consulate has no record, they told him in 1966 he was Yugoslavian. His birth certificate shows Yugoslavian. I'm confused, should I start looking in Austria or Croatia? Will the Croatian govmt have any records since the city of Pola didn't become part of that region until after WWII? My grandfather left Pola (Pula, Croatia) in 1918. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
