I was just wondering if it would be ok for me to e-mail you to find out more information. My grandmother was Alvina Varbeff she married my grandfather John Nicholson. She passed before I was born and I am very interested in finding out more about traditions of any kind concerning my Bulgarian routes.
Until then I thank you for your reply.
Natasha Curwin

Simeon Owtscharoff (Ovtcharoff)-Harisan

I am looking for any information on Simeon Owtscharoff (Ovtcharoff)-Harisan. He was born February 11, 1898 in Sofia Bulgaria. Married Erna Helena (Erna Elene) Wagner in May 1929 in Berlin. They had one child, Radka, who was born June 1, 1934 in Sofia. They spent some time in Germany, eventually immigrating to Peoria Illinois in 1950. They had family in Varna and Targoviste Bulgaria. According to notes we have, Simeon's family was most of the village of Targoviste, his grandfather sired 36 children by 2 wives.

We have photos of Radka and "cousins" in Targoviste dated 1942.

There is a photo that is Radka with "uncle Vaneu" in Targoviste. He was a shoe maker. Also dated 1942.

We know of no living relatives other than my husband and his brother. I'm sure they are out there, just trying to find them and learn more of the family history. We have photos and would like to share them with other family members.

I have a couple of photos from my husband's grandmother. They are of the Schoscheff family of Bulgaria. They must have been friends of the family. There are twins, Plamen and Ognian, father Adam and the mother is not listed by name. Cute boys, would probably be near 70 years old by now, if living. Our family lived in Sofia, I would imagine the Schoscheff family would have been there or near by. I would love to share these photos with their family.

I don't know how he got to Canada, but, he said,
he just walked over the border from Canada into the U.S.He
was able to get a job in a War Plant and became a citizen.
He tried farming, but it was during the depression and that
didn't work out.
As far as I know he had two sisters, Irene and Mary. We
have very little info on Nick, but, will look up what little he told
us. He left Bulgaria, as he said they were always having wars
and he didn't want any part of it. I don't know on what ship
he arrived, but, he landed in Canada some way. Said he lived
on bananas and one day, just walked across the Canadian
border into the U.S. with the people of America who worked
in Canada. No one questioned him in those days. He ended
up in Cleveland. He gained his Citizenship by working in a
war plant during World War 1. He married Katarina Galko in
Cleveland, Ohio and they had one son, my husband, Carl
(Karol) Koseff. He used to write to his sister, he said, until
they kept writing him to send money to buy a car for one of
their son and the other wanted money for something else. He
told them times were hard and he could not send money. It
made him angry that they wanted so much money from him
for frivolas items they did not need, so he said he quit writing
to them. I really don't know anything else about him, other
than he was a Piledriver and worked hard. He bought several
acres of Land later and he and Katherine moved to Strongsville
Ohio and build a new home there where they lived until their
death. Ginnypin@aol.com
