I have to check with my mom at some point but, form her side of the family, we are directly related to the Gruev family, that has descended form Joakim Gruev. You can see him on wikipedia, he was a very famous scholar of his time. He and his brother were both teachers at the best Bulgarian school in the mid 18hundreds. And my family is from Plovdiv, too. So we might be relatives.

Hi, I need some help with the Bulgarian spelling for Victor Tasho Houteff.

V.T. Houteff was the founder of the "Shepherd's Rod" movement in 1930 in California. The Branch Davidian variant of the Shepherd's Rod became famous when David Koresh and the Branch Davidians of Waco, Texas were killed in a stand off with the FBI.

Much has been written on the Branch Davidians. I am working on yet another Davidian history, concentrating on the earlier, non-violent history and teachings of V.T. Houteff.
I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions in tracking down the correct Bulgarian spelling for his family name.

Thanks
VTB
I hope this information is a small adition to your family tree information
=======================
Some time ago, a Pope (Orthodox priest) of Bansko was robbed of his thirty-five sheep. In the next Pomack village, he identified fifteen of them by their marks. He was lucky enough to recover the fifteen. But the Pomacks have stuck to the remaining twenty; they must have something for their trouble. Two or three weeks before I reached Bansko, Nicola, an innkeeper of the neighboring village of Dobrinishta, and
his friend, Michael Colchagoff, went to Cresna to buy wine. When near Bansko they were set upon by five Pomacks from
Mekhomia (the administrative centre of the district). This was a mid-day. They knocked down the innkeeper, and relieved him of ten liras. The innkeeper, who told me his story, and who remarked that he would only lose time and money if he made any attempt to recover his property, is still unwell from the effects of his rough treatment.

============
THis comes from

http://library.ferris.edu/~cochranr/mac/mac13.htm

THROUGH MACEDONIA BANSKO OF THE "KOMITADJIS"
by ARNAUT MARAUDERS
PROTESTANT AND ORTHODOX

Re: Rev.Tzvetko Bagranoff

I think I have information for you. I've been researching Rev.Tzvetko Bagranoff the founder of the first Bulgarian protestant mission in America. I have a lot of information about him and his ministry I am in touch with his grand-son Larry Bagranoff of Oxford Ohio. How do I put this information together. First there is information the book "Herald of his Truth" History of the Bulgarian Evangelical Churches. It says that Bagranoff family was one of the first Protestants in the town of Panagurishte. They were active during the April uprising 1876 and I believe your great grand parents were active participant in the liberation in 1987. My records show the name Stoyan Bagrianoff. It is written in "Heralds of the truth" that Tzvetko was raised in a deeply religious family. Stoyan Bagranoff is listed as one of the first evangelist in Panagurishte. Tzvetko Bagranoff graduated from the American Protestant College in Samokov then went to Presbyterian seminary in Auburn New York, where he was ordained. Back in Bulgaria he was a preacher in Yambol 1897-1900, then he taught in Samokov, then was preacher for a few months in Ihtiman and finally ministered in the town of Pirdop. It says that he was there with his sister Nedka Bagranoff-Ivanova, 1901-1905, here the church grew fast and meetings were held at Bagranoffs house. During that time he meet his wife Nevenka (graduate of the Constantinople Women's College) after they marry they and left for US. Herald of the Truth says that he left with his sister. I believe this is the ancestral ink you are looking for. Nedka Bagranoff-Ivanova probably traveled with her brother to US. He was a minister for a time of 2 perishes in Bald Mount and Newton Pennsylvania, 1905-1908. Latter his started his mission to Bulgarians in Granite City Illinois, Later moved to Madison and eventually to St. Louis.
Relatives of Evan D. Neshkoff

I am looking for relatives of Evan D., Eli, and Steve Neshkoff. Evan (John) came to the U.S. in 1914. All were born in Zlatarza or Zlataritza, the "Golden City" in the Valley of Roses. Their father was Nedelko, I believe. Any information would be appreciated. Does this city still exist?
