Biographical Notes on General José María Orellana. b. in el Jicaro in 1876 d. 1926. After the fall of the Dictator Manuel Cabrera, followed a progressive ruler Carlos Herrera... from the book ... Anthology - History of the culture of Guatemala..... as the Carlos Herrera goverment, the previous president “was againts the interests of North America it lead to the overthrow of his régime, with a coup headed by General José María Orellana, favorite of the Yanky government, who ruled from 1921 to 1926.

Achivements of his goverment were: The creation of the metereological Observatory, the riverbanks of the Motagua River were leased to the United Fruit Co., validity was given to the Méndez - Williamson contract and to that of the Electric company; it began to operate in Guatemala, the All American Cable, who later will becomeTropical Radio, and today is the Guatemalan Telephone co. or Guatel.
Of great Economical importance was the Monetary company ( the National Bank)and the creation of the Quetzal as the national currency in substitution of the peso (on a 1 to 1 to the dolar until the 1980Â’s)
General Orellana dies suddently.......”

Notas biograficas sobre el General Jose Maria Orellana. Nacio en 1876 el Jicaro y murio en 1926. Despues de la caida del dictador Manuel Estrada Cabrera, asume como presidente Carlos Herrera, un gobernante progresista ....del libro “ Antologia - Historia de la cultura de Guatemala”..... -" El lesionar los intereses de Norteamerica conduce al derrocamiento del regimen por un golpe de estado encabezado por el General Jose Maria Orellana, favorito del gobierno Yanky, quien gobernara del ano de 1921 a 1926.

Cuestiones importantes dentro de este gobierno son: La creacion del observatorio metereologico, se arriendan las margenes del rio motagua a la United Fruit Co., se le da vigencia al contrato Mendez - Williamson y el de la empresa Electrica; empieza a operar en Guatemala la All American Cable, y que luego se denomirara Tropical Radio, today the Guatemalan Telephone co. Guatel.

De gran tracendencia Economica, la empresa Monetaria y la creacion del Quetzal como moneda nacional en substitucion del peso ( con paridad con el dolar)
El general Orellana muere subitamente.......
