Lockwood family in Belize

My great-grandfather was Charles Lockwood. He was married to Catherine Jones-Lockwood. His parents were Edgar Lockwood and Frances Bailey. He died in 1971. I would love more information about him and to connect with others looking for Lockwood or Jones relations from Belize. I believe his ancestry is either Irish or Scottish.

Re: Tracing Patnett / Gordon

The name Patnett (also spelt Pattinett on old documents)is actually an old surname in Belize. It appears as far back as the 1790 census of the British Settlement in the Bay of Honduras (now Belize). There were 4 Patnetts listed - Ann Patnett, a free 'coloured' woman, Lucy Patnett and John Patnett, free 'coloured' children. Interestingly, she was living in the household of a man named James Gordon in 1790. No Gordon children recorded; but she was not his slave. The 4th Pattnett was also named Lucy; but attached to a different household. I believe John may have died young, as there is the record of the death of a child named John Patnett in 1974, and no mention of him in later censuses, or in his mother's will in 1823.

I am descended from Ann's daughter, Lucy. None of my Lucy's children carried the surname Pattnett. Later on, there are several mentions of different Patnett women giving birth to children. I am therefore guessing that these are the descendants of the second Lucy Pattnett. There was a younger Lucy Pattnett and a Maria Pattnett among those having families.

I do not know who was the father of my Lucy and I don't know the connection between the second Lucy and my Patnett family. It may be blood or circumstance. They, or their parents may have belonged to the same owner at one time and were given the slave owner's name.

I also know that the name Patnett, spelt this way, seems to have originated in Belize. Using the other spelling , stated above, has lead me to some suggestions of origin and seem to indicate a French connection. However, I am still uncertain about all that.

Happy to share with anyone researching this name.

My g-grandfather, Ernest Davis, migrated to Roatan (Mission Hill) but was originally from Belize. He married Rosalin ???? (my g-grandmother) and had five children including my grandmother Inez, b:1920-d:1964, Victoria (a.k.a Tia), Pearl (a.k.a Lily), Houston (a.k.a. Chicky, d: 1999-LaCeiba) and I believe Florence? According to my father, Ernest died of an accidental drowning on the island, probably in the 1950s. But I can't be sure because he bounces back and forth between his two grandfathers and I haven't been able to confirm which one actually drown.

I believe he had a brother named Lloyd (a doctor) who migrated to the states, I believe Long Island New York and he had a son Reginal. There were other siblings but I can't think of their names right now.

If this sounds familiar, please feel free to contact me direcly (s.heath81@yahoo.com) since I nolonger have an account with this site. You can also check me out on the Bay Island Genealogy group website. its a free site, you just have to provide your family connection to the islands.

Hope to see you there. :-)
Can anyone help?
My great grandfather Herman Rudolph Eduard Oswald married Ellen Jacobina Mahler on 26 April 1887 in Belize.Ellen's mother was Susan(Susannah) Forman.
I am told that when they left Belize in the early 1900's to return to Germany, Herman R E gave his house & the land it was on to the Church in Belize to built a church/cathederal, this has been handed down through the family. I am trying to ascertain if this is true and was it the Presbyterian church or Anglican.

Herman R E also owned a small island (caye) near Belize which was sold some years after he had left Belize, does anyone have any information on this or know where I could find answers.

Wimble65

They later went to Belize.

I am at a dead end regarding the Pommells in Jamaica. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hola Viviana,
Muchos saludos,
Regina
Do you have any information about how they came to be living with them. John Gentle the stepson is the same age as William Smith so they can't both be Agnes' children.

Anything you know about this family would be greatfully received!

My Grandmother, Victoria Dickie was staying with them in 1901 (aged 10 months).

I visited Belize in the summer of 1968. Richard and I were classmates in college. We stayed at Glenwood most of the time. It was a working cattle ranch located on the Sibun River at about mile 33 on the Cayo Road (now called the Western Highway). His mother was still alive then, as were his two sisters(I think they lived in Canada and were both married)and a brother(doctor in St. Louis). His father had just passed away. Richard and I lost contact after college.

I am interested in connecting with family members that can trace their heritage back through Pedro Eustachio & Maria Anita [Vargas] Pereira.

Pedro & Maria Anita immigrated to the Hawaiian Islands from British Honduras between 1911 and 1912 with their six children: Lucita Gregoria, Florita Vargas, Joaquim Santos, Nina, Victor Manuel & Eliseo Fontes.

Pedro, born about 1865, was a native of Santa Izabel, Boa Vista, Cape Verde and passed away in Los Angeles, Ca in 1946. Maria Anita, born about 1874, a native of Belize, British Honduras passed away in Maui, Hawaii in 1930.

I have successfully connected Pedro in Hawaii with his older brother, Manuel Joaquim Pereira of Kauai. There may be other siblings using the Pereira or Perry name.

Immediate family surnames include:
Pereira
Vargas
Fontes
Herrera
Cabral
Perry

If you are family member, or know someone that is, and are interested in re-connecting our tree please contact me.

~ Deanna

Hello! I am the daughter of Richard Loring, Lucy's youngest brother. He passed away when I was an infant, so I have never had much contact with the Belize side of the family. I did have frequent contact with his siblings Theodore and Jesse, and met Hubert and Alice. I do every so often check on the internet for information on the cousins, because I know their names. I saw your post and thought this might help you contact Woods cousins in Belize if you needed their names. http://ambergristoday.blogspot.com/2008/08/memorial-mass-for...

Hello,

When in doubt, I always check wikipedia: La Ceiba is in Honduras, also referred to as Spanish Honduras to differentiate it from British Honduras, which became the modern-day state of Belize.

So I think this answers your question, one was born in 'British' Honduras/Belize the other in 'Spanish' Honduras.

Hope this helps.
