Hello,
I've got two questions to researchers :
1. Which country of origin is optimal, when I'm working with people who were born area of present Slovakia ?
Depending to year ? = Austria-Hungary / Czechoslovakia / Slovakia or found documents ? = Hungary / Austria / Czechoslovakia or only in present name = Slovakia ?
2. Which name of place is optimal ? Only in actual slovak language (and this name is also located in location map in FamilyTree) or as it's on docs (before 1918 = mostly...always in hungarian).
For example :
I was born in Trnava, Slovakia.... my parents were born in Trnava, Czechoslovakia and my great grandparents were born in Nagyszombat, Hungary / or correct in Austria-Hungary. But it is still the same location.
It is not a little bit strange if my ancestors were born in (State of) Slovakia, because Slovakia became since 1993 ?
You now,...not many people in U.S. knows about Slovakia, sometimes heard about Czechia/Czechoslovakia.... they mostly remembered their ancestors from Hungary. ...BUT Hungary (Magyarország) is not the same state as Austria-Hungary / Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, if they are trying to locate Slovakian places.
So, what I have to write into (Family Tree's) field of Location ? ;)
