Her siblings were Wanda Maria, born Oct. 31, 1874; Aniela, born Jan. 9, 1882; Ludwig, born May 29, 1883; and Helena, born Jan 12, 1887. She married Joseph Caspar Heidemann in Herdecke (am Ruhr), Germany, on June 6, 1904. The entire family was living in Herdecke at that time. Does anyone have a link to my Wojtkowiak ancestors?

Children include Ignacy, Maria (later Radke), Roza (later Lorkowski), Estelle (later Wujczyk), Wladyslawa (later Janowski), Jozef, Stanislaw, and Kazimiera.
BORZYCK
What I know.

The family emigrated to the US in 1878 arriving at Castle Garden and settling in Elkton, Huron County, Michigan. Borzyck is believed to be the correct spelling of the surname although it appears in various records as Borzych. Sometime in the 1890s, many family members began writing the surname as BURZYCK, a spelling that is used to this day. One family member insisted that Borzyk was the correct form. Around 1920, my family changed the spelling to BURSICK.

A marriage recond found at St. Stanislaus church in Bay City, Michigan indicates a birth place for my great grandmother, Zuzanna [Bukoski] Borzyck but the document is not clear as it appears the recorder attempted to correct a handwriting mistake. The document is a marriage record for Joseph Borzyck, my grandfather's brother, and Antonina Szfranski. Antonina's mother was born in Zrenica.

I have information on five sons. Matthew, John, Joseph, Frank, and Bartholomew [aka Henry]. There were three daughters: Eleanor, Frances, and Eva.

I will be happy to share information I have.

What I am trying to find.

I am searching for the birth places of my great grandparents as well as their three daughters. Searches of villages near Zrenica so far have been unproductive. Those searches continue.

If you have information no matter how small, please contact me.

Thanks.

Sobczak/Nowak in Posen

Looking for any information on these surnames in the Posen area. I have a Michal (Michael) Sobczak who was born 1867 in Posen. He married Constance Nowak born abt. 1868 in Posen. They came with their 10 children to Milwaukee, WI around 1913. I don't know if Sobczak was their true polish name or if it was slightly altered, their first names were slightly changed when they came to the US. I know their headstones have their true polish first names & say Sobczak. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My mother's maiden name was Jacunski. She was the youngest of 17 brothers and sisters. Their father was Walter (Walasdyszlav) Jacunski. He came from Wilna, Poland (born 1865)and died in New Britain, CT (USA) in 1929. I believe he arrived in the USA in 1893 with his wife, Mary Gawalus and their 3 sons, Thomas, Joseph, and George (George was born on the ship). The rest of the siblings were born later in the USA. All have since died but I understand that Walter's parents were Adam Jacunski (died in 1875) and Barbara Bolinowski. I have no other information on them but would very much like to trace any of their siblings or ancesters and find out where they were from. Please let me know if there is any possible connection to your family.

Here is a vintage map of Posen c. 1844
http://rumsey.geogarage.com/maps/g4807061.html

http://rumsey.geogarage.com/gmaps.html

The over 120 historical maps in the Google Maps and Google Earth Rumsey
Historical Maps sites have been selected by David Rumsey from his collection
of more than 150,000 historical maps; in addition, there are a few maps from
collections with which he collaborates. These maps can also be seen in the
Gallery layer of Google Earth, Rumsey Historical Maps layer.

All the maps contain rich information about the past and represent a
sampling of time periods (1680 to 1930), scales, and cartographic art,
resulting in visual history stories that only old maps can tell. Each map
has been georeferenced, thus creating unique digital map images that allow
the old maps to appear in their correct places on the modern globe.

Some of the maps fit perfectly in their modern spaces, while others
(generally earlier period maps) reveal interesting geographical
misconceptions of their time and therefore have to be more distorted to fit
properly in Google Maps and Earth. Cultural features on the maps can be
compared to the modern satellite views using the slider bars to adjust
transparency.
I have recently become aware of the marriage of my great great grandparents, Samuel August MARX and Marie Elisabeth DRAEGAR in Chodziez, Poznan, in 1838. Their son, Johann Ludwig MARX, my great grandfather, was born in 1846 in Gramsdorf which I believe is now known as Bukowiec.

Can anyone tell me how I might obtain a copy of the marriage certificate or a copy of the marriage register for Samuel and Marie Elisabeth.

Through a distant cousin's wife I have a copy of Johann Ludwig's birth registration. How can I find out what other siblings Johann might have had, who could have been born between 1838 and 1846 or even after 1846.

I look forward to any & all advice/assistance.

Adele Williams
buster143@xtra.co.nz
Help Gniezno-LDS microfilm 2040554

I have now LDS microfilm 2040554 for Gniezno. I thought it might be for the Archdiocese there, but it is a collection of smaller towns within the Archdiocese. I will look again at the LDS site to figure out which church parishes are in the Gniezno city itself, but am inquiring if anyone may know this information and relay it to me. The lead I have only says Gniezno, so I am thinking the city itself. My Nowacki family moved to Gniezno from Swarzedz about 1869.
For the record LDS microfilm contains the following: Katedra; baptisms 1659-1718, 1719-1728, 1728-1791, 1794-1840; marriages 1636-1716, 1721-1727, 1728-1790, 1794-1840; deaths 1760-1790, 1794-1840. Jaktorowo baptisms 1704-1756; marriages 1704-1757; deaths 1745-1777. Lgow baptisms 1735-1790; marriages 1735-1790; deaths 1735-1795. Miescisko marriages 1754-1770; deaths 1754-1790. Kiszkowo deaths 1787-1810. Torun baptisms 1705-1730. All of the above villages are small in population according to the church records.

My understanding is that they
were from Posen earlier?

Specifically, I am searching for Johann Rypczynski born about 1819 and his wife, Josephine Polzin. They would have been married about mid to late 1840's.
Prussian Poles in Calumet, Michigan

Prussian Poles in Michigan

Kathy Atwood, Joseph Martin and I have been working on a new blog site. It's dedicated to the small Polish community who settled in the city of Calumet. http://calumetmi.blogspot.com

We each have ancestors who left the parishes of Bnin and/or Rogalinek outside of Poznan and settled in Calumet.
http://calumetmi.blogspot.com/2007/12/parafia-w-wojciecha-bn...

We have transcriptions, photos, and sample records online. We will be adding additional records and a database or two as time permits.

If you have Polish ancestors that lived in Calumet for any length of time, please consider contributing a photo, document or story to the blog. Its fun, easy and free.

BTW, Kathy is looking for the home village of her Baranowski ancestors. Anyone know their village or parish in Posen?

Ceil

Michigan Polonia
http://mipolonia.net

Detroit's Polonia
Detroit's Mount Elliott Cemetery
Detroit's Mount Olivet Cemetery

Hi I am searching for the parents of Catherine bc 1855, Andrew bc 1859, and John bc 1861, Janezcek. I believe they were all born in Bomst, possibly at a military camp as their father may have been in the Prussian Army. The only names I have for their parents are Edwin A & Maria Johanna Janeczek, but again not sure as their are no clear records her in Australia for them.
I have got the town Bomst from Andrew and John's naturalization records. Catherine married Ferdinand Herman Robert Riebe before they came out to Australia in 1877.
Hope somebody can help
Yvonne
Perth, Western Australia

Where is Providence, Posen, Germany?

Emil Albert Petrich is said to have been born 18 Jun 1851 in Providence, Posen, Germany. In 1881 he immigrated to the United States and settled near Varna, Illinois. My first wife's line is thru his brother, Julius Robert Petrich, born 1 Nov 1867 in Posen. He emigrated in about 1892 and also settled in Varna. It is possible that Julius' birth year was 1857, but his gravestone indicates 1867. Emil moved on to Iowa and then died in North Dakota, while Julius died in Minnesota.

The name of Providence was recently given to me by Emil's descendant, and I am trying to find out where it is located. I have long assumed that the family was from around Posen in what is now Poland, but this is the first time a parish(?) has been indicated. Providence is English, so perhaps the actual name was different. The family was Lutheran in America. I hope that someone knowing of this parish, or of the Petrich family from this region, will please contact me.

GGPA Hubert Papinski

I have been looking for my Papinski ancestors place of origin for quite awhile. The only mention of places in all the records I've found is Grudzoc and Poznan. In one record Grudzoc had a "?" after it, like the priest had no idea if spelling was right or if he didn't hear all of it. Hubert and Juliana Papinski (sometimes spelled as Papjinski) came to US in 1872, with 6 children, on a 'feather'ship, Doctor Barth. Juliana's father was Francizek Ruthowski. Two girls later became nuns, and the info I was given indicated that the family was 'likely farmers'. If anyone has knowledge of these surnames in the Poznan province of 1872, I'd love to hear about it.
