Unknown City in Poland--possibly Warsaw?

Seeking information on Maz Zygmint and Walerya OURSIK (Owsik and variations). Zygmunt was born 01 May 1881 (per tombstone) and died 29 Dec 1943 in Baltimore, MD. He married Zona Walerya (Valaria) UNK, ca. 1904 in Poland. Zona Walerya (Valaria) was born ca. 1890 in Russia Poland and died 07 Nov 1947 in Baltimore, MD. Zona and Maz are buried at the Holy Rosery Cemetery in Dundalk, MD.

This couple emigrated to the US on 7/11/1907 from Bremen, GER aboard the SS Hanover. They entered the US at Baltimore, MD on 7/27/1907.

This is what I have gathered from the ship's manifest:

Zygmunt and Walerya OURSIK departed from Bremen, Germany on 7/11/1907. With them was a Zoloslaw (Boloslaw?) Oursik, age 20 and a farm laborer.

Under space 6 (Calling or Occupation), Zygumnt is a farm laborer. Under space 8 (Nationality-Country of which citizen or subject), is Russia.
Under space 9 (race), it lists Polish.
Under space 10 (Last Permanent Address), it lists Russia and what looks like LICLCE/LILLCE. Not sure what it says.
Under space 11 (The name or nearest friend or relative in country whence alien came from), it lists "Father: Kosos?u?y Oursik", Sillce? [some symbol and possibly the Russian for Warsaw--first letters War or Was], Russia.
Under space 12 (Final Destination), it states Md, Baltimore.

Does anyone know of what location they may have been born or located in before coming to the US? Since I can't read the handwriting of the person making out the ship's manifest, I'm unsure of what this man is writing. Does anyone have any ideas? And, if so, where would I now find this city?

Sincerely,
Tina McKie
French Creek, WV

I am looking for the ancestors and siblings of my grandparents Joseph John BALDYGA (born 15 January 1885) and Mary Maya ANDRZEJCZYK (born 6 January 1886). Both from Dudy, Suwalskie (Now Warminsko-Mazurskie). I believe Dudy is near the town of Kreuzofen (Krzyc).

They were married in West Warren, Massachusetts in about 1907. Joseph and Mary had five children, all born in Clinton, Massachusetts: Rosalie V., Joseph F., Walter J., Helen A., and Irene M. BALDYGA.

Joseph's father may have been Martin BALDYGA. Mary Maya's parents were John ANDRZEJCZYK and Louise GROMELSKI.

Filipow, Jeleniewo & Bakalarzewo Parish Records

Hello to those researching in the parishes of Filipow, Jeleniewo and Bakalarzewo, powiat Suwalki, woj. Podlaskie.

Last night, at the local LDS Family History Center, I was viewing microfilm, which is labeled for the parish of Bakalarzewo. This is in the powiat of Suwalski, which was in the woj. of Suwalskie. Today it is in the woj. (province) of Podlaskie.

In the years of 1813 and 1814, I found records going back to the 1700's and early 1800 years. The earliest record, I noticed was for 1703. Although this film is labeled as covering the parish of Bakalarzewo, it actually covers the parishes of Filipow, Jeleniewo and Bakalarzewo. These records are in Latin and Polish. I only had time to view all of 1813 and part of 1814. There may be others in the following years. No reference in the notations is made in the LDS catalog about these records being on this roll of film.

If anyone had ancestors in these parishes, I thought renting this roll may be a good idea. You may get lucky and find another generation or two. This is the roll of film where I found these: FHL INTL Film 1496956 Items 9-17. This is the site where you can find the listings for Bakalarzewo: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermain...++

Good luck.

Tina Ellis

Rynkowski in the Lidzbark area

Hello,

I've noticed that in studying my Rynkowski relatives in the US, I've come across several relatives who were also studying our family's history. I'm hoping that possibly some of my relatives from the old country might be on these boards doing research as well. I'm planning a trip to my local FHL soon, but I wanted to check on here and see if anyone is researching the same folks as I am first.

The oldest ancestor of mine in this branch was Tomasz Rynkowski, born in about 1942 in either Lidzbark (back when it was called Lautenburg) or nearby in Jamielnik. He married Agnieska Seroczynska (born about 1946) while still in West Prussia/Poland around 1865. The story I've heard passed down through the generations is that Tomasz owned a farm, but lost in by cosigning for a friend's debt, causing him to leave for America in the 1890's. Tomasz's father's name was Tomasz, and there has been a Tomasz or Thomas in every generation of my family.
Tomasz had at least 7 children who survived to adulthood and came to America (Cleveland, Ohio): Andrew (my great-great grandfather, changed the spelling of his name to Rinkoski), Tomasz, Joseph, Maryanna, Rose, Leokadia, and Anna; there may have been others who stayed behind in Poland. Tomasz had a brother or a cousin named Joseph (born about 1860) who also came to Cleveland.

If anyone has any information (especially from Poland, as I believe I've exhausted most of the American information available) I'd love to hear from you.

Best Regards,
--steve
If anyone can help I would truly appreciate it. I have been searching for my family's history for some time. All I know is that we came from Elk, my Great Uncle jumped ship in New Jersey during WW II, and we were once contacted by someone from the town. I don't have the correct spelling but it sort of sounds like Radswilka. If anyone has any information it would be helpful. My Grandfather's name was Edward and my great grandfather's name was Peter I think. I know we had a Great Uncle Wlater but that's as much as I know. The only member's of my family who know for sure are either dead, dying, or have developed Alzhiemer's. I thanl you in advance for any help.

Jessica

I am trying to locate my Grandfather. From passenger manifest he is recorded as coming from Petrovich. Others that he was traveling with listed various spellings of Petrovich. I believe he was coming from Piotrowiec, because a cousin he was traveling with was from Gajle which is not far from Piotrowiec. Could anyone advise me on where to look for geneological documents. He was born in 1888 and came to the U.S. on the ship Chemnitz in 1910. His last residence as Petrovich, Russian Poland. Perhaps I'm searching the wrong Peto......? Thanks in advance for any help.

Eleanor

I am trying to find info on the town of Galwuny, it is next to the town of Ketrzyn. My grandmother Stanislawa Rinkevich was born there. I was wondering if there is a catholic church there that might have baptism records. Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you
Eileen

Zabrost Wielki

Hi,

My great grandmother, Marie Terketzky, was born 19 April 1863 in Birkenfelde, Kreis Gerdauen, Ostpreussen, to Gottlieb Terketzky & Wilhelmine Kossmann. This information is from her 1885 marriage record marriage (she was married in Ploetz, Kreis Demmin, Westpreussen). The marriage record further indicates that her parents were from Gross Sobrost. Through several searches, I found that Gross Sobrost is now Zabrost Wielki, in Warminsko-Mazurskie (formerly Olsztyn). I am looking for information on the villages of Zabrost Wielki & Birkenfelde (I couldn't find anything on Birkenfelde, which is the German name).

I am also wondering what records exist for Zabrost Wielki & Birkenfelde (which was probably a very small village near present-day Zabrost Wielki). I believe that the Terketzky Family was Evangelical-Lutheran (Marie Terketzky was). When did civil registration begin?

Lastly, does anyone have any idea as to the origin of Terketzky? I'm sure that it's a Polish surname which would have been spelled Terketzki (German records spelled it 'Terketzky,' with a dotted y), but that's all I know.

Please let me know if you have any information.
Thanks!
Sincerely,
Richard Michaels

I am tryng to determine which Catholic Parish the town of Medyny (Medien) would have been in. From looking at the map, it appears the nearest town with churches is Lidzbark Warminski, but when I look that up at a Polish parishes website, there is more than one parish listed. The family name was Medyn, and I can locate them slightly to the east in 1896 in Grabowo, but thinking they might have come from Medyny. Any help would be appreciated.

Searching for birthplace of Andrew Niklowicz, b. 6/19/1890, not sure where. Family stories are Poland, White Russia, Austria or Ukraine. The only other Niklowicz I have found on the internet is Antonius Niklowicz who wed Juliana Wardowna 25 Nov. 1816, in Marggrabowa, Ostpreussen, Preussen. I understand that this part of East Prussia is now Poland and in the Warminsko-mazurskie province. It's a long shot, but Antonius may be a relative. Does anyone have resources that can get me to where I need to be to get more information on the marriage from 1816. Also, possibly census records from that area after 1816? Thanks, Gordena

Kathryn married Andreas Zaremba in 1890 and had three children: Wyladyslawa, Alexandra, and Emilia. I would like to hear from anyone who has more information on these surnames.

Andreas Zaremba son of Jana and Eva Dambrowski married Kathryn Mary Skarzynska daughter of Jozefa and Marianny Siemiaszko in 1890. Children were Wlandslawa (s), Alexsandra (s), and Emily (d). Emily was born in Gebalowka, Suwalki. I believe Kathryn and family were from Suwalki. Zaremba may not be from Suwalki. Looking or further family information.
Hello,

I'm researching the family Bulitta from Kukukswalde (East Prussia) - now Grzezolki near Pasym/Poland. My grandfather Johann Bulitta (*1902 in Kukukswalde, +1959 in Herne/Germany) left K. in 1920. The rest of his family stayed in K. at least until 1945 (some up to 1961).

The origins of the family seem to stem from the former County of Allenstein (now Olsztyn) in Warmia.

Other names researched in that area: Maicki, Flanz, Pregel.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Czyborra from Butryny, Annuss from Pasym

My father Heinz Czyborra (Czybora as he likes to spell it) was born 1943 in Allenstein (PL-10500 Olsztyn) and grew up in the village of Grabenau (Przykop) near Wuttrienen (PL-11032 Butryny) and had to migrate to the big West German city D-4400 Muenster at age 15 because my widowed grandmother gave up her killed father Barczewski's farm. The old Czyborra farm in Butryny was not passed down the oldest-son line (what would I be supposed to do with it???) but is now run by my grandaunt Lydia Hohmann's family. Despite the Polish-looking name (and my father does speak Polish, ja tylko bardzo malo mowie po polsku) my parental ancestry identifies as German Catholic and all my Czyborra forefathers I could trace back to the 1790s have had German forenames.

My maternal grandfather Willi Annuss spent a bit of his youth vacationing from the polluted Ruhrpott in his grandparents' homestead not far from Wuttrienen but on the other side of the confessional iron curtain: in the Protestant town Passenheim (Pasym). When my Protestant forefathers bicycled through the Catholic villages they were thrown eggs at.

I would like to learn more about my family's history, their political role during the Nazi era and the etymology of the family names "Czyborra" and "Annusz" which has been puzzling us for many years.
Searching for birth record of Anton Plohmann, born in Mehlsack(?) (Pieniezno) 1805. He was a shoemaker. Moved to Konitz, West Prussia and married there in 1832, age 27.The Konitz Burgherbuch states he came from Mehlsack.
Searching also for Anton's parents names. Does anyone have a "burgherbuch" of Mehlsack, and does it list Anton?(c1825) Since he was a shoemaker, perhaps his father was one as well
Is there a Guild book for Mehlsack for this time frame? I have been told the church christening books were destroyed.
I found one book for Deaths only, in the Mormon films. I would appreciate any help. Thank you. - Muriel
