The surnames Rymarowicz and Rozenbajgier are common surnames in the village of Trzesniow ad the surrounding areas in southern Poland. The surname Rozenbajgier is originally of German origin, as Germans and Poles settled in the regions in the late fourteenth century. Rozenbajgier was originally Rosenberg and Rymarowicz was Reimer

Thank you so very much! It is good to know I am on the right track: I have researched at the PGA site before and found that Pregowo Dolne's records are "not available." I did write to the "help" section on that website (I suppose the message went to the Stanislaw that you mention!) several months ago, but no one ever answered me.

From their census and immigration record, I can guess that Julius and Augusta were married in or around 1876; they immigrated to the US March 20, 1884. Rosalie was born in August of 1883 in Prussia, but I have found no actual record of this.

I know Julius' parents (Carl Swidrowski and Florentina Lehr -- AND his grandparents, Andreas Swidrowski and Scharlotte Dorothea Hardtmann), and that Carl and Florentina came over to America to join Julius and Augusta.

But, nothing about Augusta, save for a sister named Paulina Salewski, born c. 1856. And that Augusta had 8 children, but only 4 lived (I only know the names of the 4 living children).

I will perhaps try to contact the PGA one more time. And try the Catholic parish in Pregowo.

As always, I appreciate your help and your interest. I feel like Augusta's story (she died in 1931) has gotten pushed to the background in the family, and I'd like to find out more. Thank you for your kindness in searching!

Meredith

RACKA of ZURAWCE

Hi, I am making enquiries on behalf of a friend who does not have a computer. Her mother was Zofia Racka born 7/11/1924 in Zurawce, Poland according to her 1939 Identity papers. On her marriage certificate from Tasmania Australia dated 9/12/1950 she states her mother's name as Anastasia RACKA (maiden name) no fathers name is given. Any info as to where and how a birth certificate or baptism record for these 2 women could be obtained and other family information would be greatly appreciated. It is believed Zofia had at least 2 sisters. Also it appears she was of the Roman Catholic faith so was probably baptised in the nearest Church and an address for this would be most helpful.
Regards
Chris

Thank you! Yes, I have census and a few death records from their lives once they immigrated to Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. And I have been trying to use the information on those records (such as birth years) to find out their lives in Poland.

I have had luck with Julius Swidrowksi/Swithers (we are "Swithers" now!), but no luck with Augusta Salewski/Sulewski. She is called "Augusta Selecka" on my great-grandfather's baptismal record; I think this is a misspelling of Salewska.

Thank you so much for taking the time to search and taking an interest! I cannot afford to travel, nor do I have funds for researchers, so any information I gather has to be through the internet and generous help from message boards: I appreciate it!

Seeking Salewski/Sulewski Family in Pregowo Dolne

Hi --

I am looking for information (or how to find information!) about my great great grandmother, Augusta Sulewska/Salewska. She was born in March 1851, probably in Nieder Prangenau (Polish: Pregowo Dolne). I know she had a sister Paulina, who was born approximately 1856.

Augusta married Julius Swidrowski in 1876, and they immigrated to Nanticoke, PA in 1884, with their small daughter Rosalie and with Augusta's sister Paulina Salewska. I unearthed Augusta's death record from Pennsylvania, but unfortunately it has "unknown" for her parents' names and place of birth (besides Germany-Poland, or Prussia). I have a feeling she is buried in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, as that is the church the family went to.

I know Julius was born in Pregowo Dolne, and I can see that there are Salewskis/Sulewskis living in that area, but I cannot find Augusta. I am just assuming that -- to meet and marry -- they would have to have been born in the same or close-by village.

If anyone knows about the Salewski/Sulewski family in Poland (in the Neider Prangenau area), I would love any information.

I would very much appreciate any help you can give. I have reached a dead end with Augusta, and we, the family, would love to know more about her, either from Poland or about her life in Pennsylvania.

Thank you so much!
Hello,

I've just returned from Poland and visiting the church where my great-grandmother (Victoria Zbylut) was baptized. There were many in the family baptized at the church. The priest allowed us to go through the records, freely. Currently, the records are being transcribed and put in order for me in Poland.

The latest list with no less than 30 names that were translated for me (but have yet to be fully transcribed) does show a Rozalia Zbylut. As soon as I do know more, I will post it here, or message you.

The marriage took place usually in the parish the bride belonged to. That does not necessarily mean that the bride was baptized in the same parish. If her parents travelled in their life, this is not the case.

The couple sometimes stayed with bride's parents and their children (at least the first ones) would be born there. But more likely they moved to the place where the groom stayed.

This are only my observations and not 100% rules.

Thank you very much for the links. The place of their wedding was the new addition to my search, and it is reaffirming to know that three of the four towns are near each other. What would be the odds that this parish is also where the couple was baptized at? Should I also ask for birth records?

Re: Anyone know where Kuchinski or Tront originated from in Poland?

The name "Tront" for people in North America of Polish origin is actually an "English" form of the name.

The original spelling in Polish is Trąd where the " ą " in the Polish letter alphabet sounds to English speaking people like "awh".

In North American records/cemeteries I have seen it spelt/mispelled a variety of ways including: Tront, Truant, Trout, Trent, Front, Bond,Trond, Trad.

My great-grandmother Victoria/Wiktoria Trad was born Jan 6, 1877 in Chyze, Poland, a small village near Narol located in the lower south eastern part of Poland. She married Paul/Pawel Peresluka/Peresluha sometime between 1901-1906. In 1906 they immigrated to Manitoba, Canada.

I have traced her side of the family using the Narol Roman Catholic Church Records in the microfilms done by the Latter Day Saints Church. Victoria's grandfather Adalbertus/Wojciech Trad appears to have moved from the village of Chlewiska to Chyze at some point. He died in Chyze in 1854 and from his death record was born about 1799 probably in Chlewiska. This is the earliest date I have for this family. I can go back one more generation but have no dates to attach to his parents who are listed as being Laurentius Trad and Rosilia Lomber/Ląber.

Victoria's husband Paul Peresluha was born July 8 1875 in Chyze, Poland. His father Joannes was born and died in Chyze but his grandmother Franciscae Peresluha died April 21, 1854 in Kadlubiska (another small village nearby Narol). From her death record she appears to have been born about 1808. Her parents are listed in the records as being Casimir Peresluha and Barbarae (no last name given).

Would love to hear from anyone else out there who have the name Peresluha/Peresluka in their family as well as anyone with Trad/Tront family. Both these last names do not seem to be a very common in the Narol records. Please email me at ssavoie@shawnospam.ca ( take out the "nospam" part).

Hello. I am looking for someone who can point me in the direction of records from the town of Sycow in Poland. It was also known by the name of Grosvartenberg in the old German Empire.

I am searching for records for a couple that came from that town in the 1880s. Peter Kensok and his wife Anna, maiden name unknown. We do not know the Polish version of the Kensok name.

Any help would be appreciated

The two villages are only 9 miles away:
https://maps.google.pl/maps?saddr=Budzis%C5%82aw+g%C3%B3rny&...

Budzisław Kościelny (meaning: Church Budzisław) has obviously a parish: http://web.diecezja.wloclawek.pl/parafia/WnieboNMP_BudzKosci...

The old records from Budzisław Kościelny (marriages 1900-1901) should be available at:

Archiwum Diecezjalne we Włocławku (Diocese Archive)
ul.
Marriage records in Poland / Budzislaw

Recently received Naturalization records for my Michalena and Joseph Blaszczyk/Blastic. They both list their marriage place as Budzislaw, Poland. One said Feb ? 1901, and the other has the marriage on 17 Feb 1900. Is there a place to find marriage records for that time? I have found some websites that have marriage records, but I am not sure of the right province or diocese. By the way, these records also say their birth locations as Singanow and Orchowa and their last residence was Lenartowo.

For those specifically interested in Lutheran (Evangelical) records for Russian Poland, you can find a current list at

https://sggee.org/research/parishes/church_parishes/Lutheran...

Be aware that that individual Archives have their own sites where records are being posted so there are more out there than just the recommended link in the previous message.

Jerry

There is a new Polish website that may have information you are looking for. It is a recent partnership of the Polsih government and the State Archives.

They are slowly scanning and digitizing all Polish archives for free online use. You can find the website below. Simply enter the city or village you are looking for and it may have some stuff for you.

NOTE: not all of the documents are available for online viewing at this time as the digitizing process is ongoing. The first batch of archives was released in May 2013 and the second batch will be released in June 2013. This means that your information may show up as part of the archive, yet you will be unable to view the images for the time being.

http://www.szukajwarchiwach.pl/

Happy hunting!

Chris.
Re: Blaszkiewicz in Scranton, PA

The 1910 Census states they were from Rus-Poland, which means, of course, that John and Josephina were from the Russian partition. Josephina had given birth to 9 children of whom 8 were still living. The surname in the 1900 census was spelled Boczkiewicz. The children in the household were Joseph, Stanley, Mary, Walter, Sophia, Stella, and Vatz. According to this census, John came in 1890, Joseph and Stanley came in 1889, and Josephina, Mary and Walter came in 1892. Stella and Vatz were born in Pennsylvania. Since John and Josephine were married only 7 years, I'd assume the children born in Russian-Poland were from a previous marriage.

You'd likely find where in Poland John and Josephine were from in the baptismal records for their children born in the USA. What you want is a photocopy of the entry written in the church register and not just a certificate. The info in the church book usually contains more info than on the cert.

-MJ
Was the church that they attended in Scranton predominantly Polish? If so, many parish priests recorded the parish of origin in Poland. Also perhaps other family members joined them and their origins recorded on ellisisland.org.

I am researching the Blaszkiewicz family that settled in Scranton, PA. Earliest I can find is a 1910 census record, but I'm interested in where they may have emigrated from in Poland. I just haven't had much luck tracking them down.

Parents - John Blaszkiewicz (b 1870) & Josephina (b 1860)
Children - Sophia, Stanislava (Stella), Walter and Anthony

Census records state the arrived in the US around 1893.

Any help is appreciated.
