I am researching my Great-Grandmother's family. Her name was Victoria PIELA, b. 1896 in Zywiec Poland, she emigrated to the US in 1912-14 and made landing in Galveston, Texas. She married a Zygmunt WIEZIK (whom she met on the boat in 1915) and they settled in out-lying Chicago area. Any hints, or matches I would love to hear back!

A Proud Silesian Heritage!

My ancestry from Silesia is very rich. My ancestors lived in Upper Silesia for many generations. My ancestral family names include: Lepiarczyk, Kania, Szymura, Jagielka, Groborz, Hennich, Szula, Nowak, Matuszek, Gruszka, Bernacisko, Mathysik, and Duda.
My Silesian ancestors lived in the proximity of Rybnik, Zabrze, Gross Rauden, Gottartowitz, Kleschczow (near Sohrau), and Jankowitz (near Pless). Today Gross Rauden is known as Rudy; Gottartowitz as Gotartowice; Sohrau, Zory; Jankowitz, Jankowice; and Pless, Pszczyna.
It will be a distinct pleasure to communicate with anyone who is related to my ancestral families. I look forward to visiting my Silesian ancestral homeland. I would like to meet "cousins" when I am in Upper Silesia.
I have become acquainted with a magnificent genealogist who lives in Upper Silesia. I recommend him most highly. Please contact me for further information.
Splendid landmarks I remember from Upper Silesia include the magnificent Saint Anthony's Basilica in Rybnik, the castles and grounds in Rudy and Pszczyna, a lovely restaurant and patio cafe in Stodoly, and a memorable night club in Rybnik. Silesian culture is fabulous!
My Lepiarczyk family ancestors lived in the proximity of Gross Rauden, Podbiala, and Stanitz (now Stanice). The church in Rudy is lovely. I am most grateful that baptismal, marriage, and death records have been as well preserved as they are in the church rectory.
Although many Upper Silesians do not speak English, it is easy to feel very welcome in Upper Silesia! My relatives in Rybnik and Rudy are precious. Seeing the home where my father grew up and the school he attended in Rybnik were very impressionable. The graves of many of my ancestors and family members are in the Rybnik Cemetery. I was particularly proud to visit the graves of my grandfather, grandmother, great-grandmother, uncle, great-uncle, and relatives in the Rybnik Cemetery.
I believe this picture was taken in Okrajnik, Poland, of members of the Mikusek family. It was most likely taken prior to WW I. I haven't been able to identify anyone in the photograph. The seated woman may be Maria Wojciechowska and the man in uniform may be Miche or Michal Mikusek. Jan Mikusek kept this photo separate from others.

I am trying to trace my late fathers family. He was born in Poland in a village called rudnyk. He was born in 1922 and his mothers name was Maria. He came to England during the was and served in the british navy, I also know that his and his family's surname was changed around this time. The surname we have now is Mikolajec but a letter that came mant years ago was addressed to Edward Mikolajetz so I am not sure if this is the original spelling. I have been searching everywhere but keep hitting brick walls. If anybody can give me any hints how to proceed, I would truly appreciate it.
Thank you.

Banert Family in Katowice.

Hello.
I am trying to trace my Grandfarthers family in Katowice. He was Paul Andrew Banert born 4th Feb 1925, Died Jul 1984 here in England, and was resettled in the UK, as part of the Polsih Ressettlement Act of 1947, follwing his release as a POW. He was son of Karl & Frances Banert (although these are obviously not Polish names, he was born a Polish national and served in the Polish army during the war), and brother to Victoria, Rose, Florian, & Joe. My Mother last had contact with Victoria (then Victoria Zielonogorska) in the late 1980, who still lived in Katowice, (2/63 40-710, Katowice 6)but she was in her eighties then, so we assume we lost contact as a result of her passing away. We also know that his Father Karl was a member of the police force in Katowice. I would appreciate any help from anybody.

I know this may take some time but I'm trying to find out if anyone has traced back to Katharyna Halaczek or Wiktorya, who is probably her mother... Both arrived in the US in 1907... Just intrigued to know if anyone knows what happened post '07

Vicky

Lastly, can anyone tell me how a hyphenated name would have been acquired?

Many thanks,

Jane Reifer

My GG Grandfather was Herman G Petzold, his father was Wilhelm Petzold. Herman was born in Nuemarkt (now Sroda Slaska). Herman's mother was a Von Mainert. The family story I have is that Wilhem married a German princess (Von Mainert). There was a court battle & the Wilhelm Petzolds fled Silesia for USA, when their daughter, Wilhemina was 13 & Herman was about 6 yrs old. The mother Von Mainert died shortly after the family arrived in New York. There may have been another daughter & son. I'm not sure. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

He was in the Polish navy which later grouped up with British Royal Navy during WW II. In 1948 he came to Canada as a refugee. My sister Teresa was baptized at Jasna Gora - so I was told. My grandfathers name was Michal Jan Paliga. Can someone please guide me on how to proceed.

I am looking for any information on John Zalejski (1885-1966) and his wife Victoria Loranta Zalejski (1889-1967). I believe they were born from Czestochowa. John immigrated to South Bend, Indiana in 1913 and his wife and daughter Stephany/Stella (1912-1991) followed later that year. John had a brother, Martin Zalejski (1894-1989) who also immigrated to South Bend in 1921, having first lived in Paris. John and Martin's parents were Phillip Zalejski and Anastazya Mazuro Zalejski. I do not know the name of Victoria Loranta's father, but I do know her mother's name was Mary (maiden name unknown). Victoria had at least one brother and one sister, but I do not know their names. Are these names familiar to anyone?

Hello:

I'm trying to locate ancestors and descendants of Katarzyna (nee Niemiec) Szulc, born @1875-1890 in Poland, probably in what is known as the Kresy area (eastern Poland--today known as Ukraine and Belarus). Her descendants were evacuated to Dabrowa, powiat Milicz, woj. slaskie, and another village in the recovered territories, right after World War II. Katarzyna had the following children: Julcia, Marynia (married Michal Skwarek), Mila, Hela (married name Karbowska), Jasiek, and Jozek. Jasiek and Jozek had been evacuated to an unknown village in western Poland--one of them has a daughter named Lidia.

Katarzyna Niemiec Szulc had a sister, Zofia, who married Jozef Janusz. Zofia and Jozef Janusz had lived in Kolomeja and Tarnow in Poland, as well as, Pennsylvania, Michigan and California in the States.

I know that this message is a long shot, but there is always hope!

Many thanks,

Hali
CHLAD or CHLOND

Hello everybody
My name is CHLOND Patrick, i’m living in France. I’m looking to collect some informations about my grand parents who came from POLAND to France in years 1930.
My grand father name was CHLAD Stanislav, born 07/11/1890 in £EKA. I have’nt any information about him. I’m not sure that the polish letters can be read, so in my grand father name the third letter is a l with a bar, and the a has a cedilla, on LEKA it'sa l with a bar.
My grand mother name was Helena Nowak was born 10.02.1901 in Czestochowa (doc. no. 1901/403 - St.Zygmunt parish church in Czestochowa) as daughter of Andrzej
Nowak (30 years) and Maria Kontra (21 years). I'm not quite sure about name Kontra. Andrzej Nowak (her father) was born 14.11.1871 in Czestochowa (doc no. 1871/703 - same church) as illegitimate son of not-married Jozefa Nowak (28 years).
When they came in France they haved one daughter : Mieczylawa, born 15 février 1925 in BEDZIN (Ksawera).
When they came in France, their name was transformed from CHLAD to CHLOND, so it’s very hard to me to contact some people in POLAND, i’m not sure of the good spelling of my grand father name, however it’s the spelling CHLAD who is on my grand father’s passport.
Thank’s for your help, and i’m sorry for my spelling and grammatical mistake.
Patrick
