Hello All,
I've reached a roadblock in learning more information about my ancestor, Wilhelm Friderich Penak. I know he was born on 6 Mar 1847 in "Deichsel, Landsberg an der Warthe", which I've traced to be today's Gorzow. Wilhelm immigrated to the United States (Ohio) in 1872, and was married to Henrietta Schwertmann. He also had a brother named Heinrich.

My questions are:
1. What does the "Deichsel" mean? Is it a nearby village?
2. Are there any online gen. records that go back to when this area was part of Prussia?

Thank you!!

My family’s surname was Swed (or Szwed or Shwed).
(Im not sure about translation from Russian)
Supposed they live now in Poland and one family in USA.
Maybe, you’re one of them????

My grandparents family lived in Ukraine in Cherkassy towm, Kyivskaya oblast about 1860-1920.
Family surname was Shwed (or Shved), father’s name was Saveliy (Savva), mother’s (his wife’s name) - unknown.
It was a big family with 6 children (according to age): Ganna (f), Gerasim (m), Pelageya –was born in 1893 (f),Gnat (m), Vera (f), Sofia (Sonya) (f).

I know a little bit only about Pelageyas’ life- she was my grand-grandmother.
Her maiden name was Shwed, her father’s name - Savva. She was born in Cherkassy (Ukraine) in 04/05/1893.
Married on Vekharov Afanasiy (his father’s name was Arefiy) who came from Russia.
Family lived in Cherkassy and had a big own house.
They had 2 sons: Aleksander- was born in 1917, Ivan - was born 07.01.1920.
In 1920y during the Civil war in Kremenchuk town (Ukraine) Vekharov Afanasiy was shoot in by Red Army military solders. He was an officer in a White Army.
After this execution Pelageya was hiding from solders of Red Army and changed her surname from Vekharova on Ivanishina. Their 2 children were separated in two different children’s homes where oldest- Aleksander- was dead in 1920, and another- Ivan- survived. Ivan was my grandfather and dead 19.02.2007.
Pelageya dead in Cherkassy town (Ukraine) 09/02/1938.

I heard that Gerasim with all his family- wife and children- moved about 1900 though Poland to USA. Another part of family – Ganna, Gnat, Vera and Sonia with theirs families moved to Poland.
I know that we had more family in Poland, not only these people, but know only about this grand-parents.

We lost all connection with our family during all this long years but I hope we can meet together one day. I will appreciate for every information about my relatives.

I suppose if we can change photos of us it would more helpful to see if we have some common traits or not.
Look forward to hear from you soon!

Katerina Vikhareva, Ukraine, Kyiv.
Katerina_vik@yahoo.com
I am looking for the family of a great grandmother, Henrietta Augusta PELKE, who was born September 19, 1867 in Grondzaw [Polish "Grazawy," near Brodnica, the old Strasburg], West Prussia, Germany; she died February 10, 1912 in Glen Lyon, PA. She would have been Lutheran as her birth date was obtained from the Lutheran Church she attended in America. According to her death certificate, she was the daughter of Karl PELKE and Dortha ZELESKI. While her given name was Augusta, she was sometimes known by "Wilhelmina." This has been a dead end for me, so any assistance would be appreciated.

Christian Friedrich Wilhelm PETRICH (born 1824 in Kreis Arnswalde) and his wife Ernestine Wilhelmine RIEDEMANN (born 1821 in Kreis Deutsch-Krone, Westpreussen) lived in Kreis Arnswalde which is now part of the present day Polish province of Gorzowski. His Rufname was Wilhelm.
They were married in 1849.

The couple had six known children: August, Emma, Franz, Wilhelm, Friedrich C., and Johann Gustav (Rufname: Gustav).
I'm descended from "Fred" (born 1857) who emigrated to the US in 1885. We have contact with a descendent of Gustav's (b.1862). Gustav had stayed in "Germany".
We have no knowledge of the other siblings or their descendents.

We do know that at least three related Petrichs in Berlin in the 1950's (?): Hulda (Mrs Paul ZIMMERMANN), Emil, Rudolf, and Reinhold. Now all deceased. We don't know the exact relationship.

Also there was a Gertrud PETRICH-KÖPP (born about 1900 and still living in 1990) from Cottbus (?) in Germany. I don't know the relationship there either.

If anyone knows anything about these people or this family I would like to hear from you.

JAN MARCINKOWSKI=Of Blessed memory John Marcinkowski
Umarl 5go Pazdziernika 1927=Died on the 5th of October 1927
Pochowany 8go Pazdz. 1927=Buried on the 8th of October 1927
Modlmy sie.=Let us pray.
Prosimy Cie Boze, niech na-=We entreat you oh Lord
sze blagalne modly wyjedna-=that our beseeching prayers gain
ja to dla duszy s. p. Jana, =for the soul of Jan of Blessed memory
wiernego sluzebnika Twojego=your faithful servant
izbys jego od wszelkich uwol-=freedom from all sins
nil grzechow, a Twego odku_=and participation
pienia uczynil uczestnikiem.=in Your Redemption [Note: ‘of humanity’ if understood here]
Pochowaniem zwlok zmarlego zajeli sie=(The following people) made arrangements for the services

Halina
You can research the family through U.S. federal census records of 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 of Chicago. There are also city directories which can be viewed. If you are living out of the U.S., you can review these through a Latter-day Saint Family History Library near you.
