I'm trying to find information regarding my grandfather, Walter James Pielka, born 1927 in Czestochowa. We are unsure of his birth surname. The story we have is that his mother died, either giving birth or shortly after, and he was taken in by the Pielka family. His mother's name may have been Anna Madalinski. Part of the story is also that his biological father immigrated to the US or Canada with the promise to return and retrieve my grandfather. The other story is that my grandfather may have been born out of wedlock. My grandfather was sent to work on the farms at approx. 12/13yrs of age around the time of the German occupation of Poland. After the war he immigrated to Canada, approx.1946/47 and settled in Fort William (now Thunder Bay) Ontario. He kept in some contact with members of the Pielka family, but eventually this correspondance ended. I'm trying to find out ANY information that could be related to this or that might point me in the right direction.
